I've never Driven for a large underpaid carrier before all my years of driving, Considering making my current drivers use an elog of some sort. Squeezing time is not an issue, I myself will Use a paper log until its no longer Allowed. All of my drivers use a Mobile Device capable of the "Keep Truckin" app. So what is a LEGAL App, that the FMCSA Recognizes as an Actual log book. It will save time if they send in their logs via Email. I'm Serious about the switch, How many has ever gotten stopped with a phone app for a logbook? If it works out pretty good ill Invest in some company owned Tablets for the Primary use of the eLog. I'm NOT going to install an actual qualcomm unit on my trucks.

I believe any app you have like that
only makes it a neat paper log
unless a log is tied into truck movement it can not possibly
be anything but creative writing by the driver
you would also have to have the capability to print it aboard the truck

but I have been wrong before...........shhhhh

Oh yes printer scanners are standard equipment on board. Now i'm doing some digging and the app says its FMCSA approved and must be accepted by a DOT official upon request per FMCSA rule 390.31 and question 7 so you are correct. Now as far as a neat log, that's the main reason for the switch, dirty hands, grease, damp hands all mark up paper logs. Especially with the Vocational vehicles, As told by a GADOT officer either carry a log book or punch in at the home terminal under 100 miles, for a truck to come back and punch is ridiculous and A neat log shows a lot about company professionalism and posture.

well as long as all your doing is making it a pretty paper log
it only has to meet minimum requirements
if app has everything your loose leaf does on it
I don't think there is a legal question past that

they're all legal to use. just gotta have print outs. and from what i've seen, they all do email also. so you can email to dot. and some will even fax.

no one ever did answer my question though. on the megas that don't have printers in their trucks. the ONLY eobr i used. wasn't connected to my printer.

so, everyone's answer, is you gotta have printouts. but what about the megas and what not, that don't have printers with their babysitters.

I use Big Road to do my math for me, and then transfer it to a paper log, have got mixed reviews from several officers of the law.... I am thinking of going to Qualcomm if they implement it, $800 for startup, and a monthly fee... Qualcomm owns the equipment, and if it crashes, Qualcomm replaces it, it is also tied to the truck, and DOT wont question it. Just my $.02

quit using the paper. that's your problem.

dot NEVER questions electronic. they ALWAYS question paper.

mine are done on my laptop. and never even looked at.
