Truck driver in the army.

Heck just getting out of bed can kill you! If non combatant it will depend on the job! If a mechanic a truck could fall on you. If airborne the chute might not open and the sudden stopage will kill you if you don't die from sheer fright on the way down with a streamer! If climbing towers is your MOS a misstep at 300 or a thousand feet is the same as your chute not opening especially if you contact the tower on the way down. Your ship or sub could sink. A moron could decide to play Ft Hood on you. A cook could poison you! You might work for a Bottom Feeder and not get paid. You pay for over priced food at the truck stops. Pay for your own clothes and can't claim them on your taxes except for safety shoes, unless you are required to wear a uniform then they are tax deductible. You actually get a FULL per diem pay BEFORE you go TDY and not some ripoff PD that these Bottom Feeders screw you with! You could die from not idling in the heat. You could screw the pooch and wreck or someone else could bring you into their screwup wreck. The same for the Ft. Hood or cook deal. Your wife could find out about you paying a coin operated baby doll and beat you or shoot you to death or super glue certain body parts to other body parts! . Some moron thief could shoot or knife you after you gave them what few dollars you had in your pocket because they heard some rumor that truckers made "good" money.
BUT with the military your paycheck is there on time! You get those 3 squares a day untill you make E-5. (well I did back in the early 70's!) The benefits are better than they are out here. You can sleep in the same bed every night except when you go into the field and after Basic and AIT they quit telling you when to sleep, shower, eat and other bodily functions as you've "grown up" by then!. Your clothes are paid for untill you hit a certain rank then they are tax deductible. You only have the same boss for about a year until one or the other is transferred. The military can be a lot more fun as you can actually screw off and get paid for it and yep it IS an adventure! Trucking can be hard work all day and stressful more than being in a war zone! You actually do pretty good unless some idiot libtard gets to be CIC and tries to make you pay for your medical and other "perks" or decides that you don't need a raise and so on!
But what do I know? I was only in from 1971 - 1975 and trucking ever since with maybe 3 years doing other things just to see if there was something else than watching life through a glass window and getting a flat arse from sitting all day on it! I wish I could have retired from Uncle Sam but he had other ideas after we got kicked out of Vietnam! Getting Riffed after reupping bit big time!
To you still serving Thank You for your service to MY country and please do NOT think that trucking is a goodd job right now! Most of these Bottom Feeders will wow you with their gift of gab and screw you like trash and could care less about your service and dedication to your Country! Stay in if you can! Wars come and go and your odds are about as good staying alive as it is driving a truck into certain areas of the country! Besides if you're lucky enough where else do they pay you to blow things and idiots up?
Good Luck

There is no comparison between the Military & Driving a Truck.
Why does everyone try to make that comparison? -
Good question, Redd. Perhaps because either of those careers can cause one's mother to worry?

Everything in life is a risk. You can be killed at anytime doing anything.... Whether it be driving a truck, serving in the military, flipping burgers, picking your nose, or sitting on your but toking a dobie.....
With no risk in life, there is no gain! If your scared to take a risk, then climb back into the womb.... Although, I don't think it is safe there either!ptropixxx Thanks this. -
I belive lupe is trying to decide if going into the military would be a better option for him at this point in his life rather then persuing a career in trucking. After reviewing the majority of his posts he sounds young and very undecided on what to do with his life.
One thing to remember lupe, nothing in life worth having will be easy, the higher the risk, effort and dedication will reap the greatest rewards.
Good luck to you.

In the military at least you have the chance of being stuck at a desk job.....not in trucking.

Then I vote for the Military!
They will train you to work. They will give you the opportunity to learn skills to succeed in life. They will assist with continuing education to succeed in life!
And there is no honor higher or greater then the honor then what a veteran has!!
Then.... If you wanna drive a big ol' truck afterwards...... Then go for it!
