which is a better choice for first truck????

    I would also say scrap the freightliner/detroit combo, last month when I fell and bumped my head and decided to pull a freight box around, I was talking to one of their mechanics about how their truck were set up. He said they had freightliners/ detroits, international/cummins all aero trucks set between 400-460 hp, 10 spd's and auto's he said they get around 6, I saw the monthly #'s they handed out and it was around 6 mpg. He asked what I got with my 379 pete and when I told him 6 he couldn't believe it. Their avg. also included all their trucks running the flat midwest and down to tx, I was running Pa, Nj, Md, Va, and Ny. while my 97 is not perfect a new set of door seals would be the only thing it would need, dash is not plastic and cracked/ratteling and the motor and all the heat and noise that it makes is not half in the cab. Remember you get what you pay for

    I think that MM and 550 are forgetting something very important. A properly spec'd aero truck would save so much in fuel the first year alone, that the driver could practically retire in less than two years. If he decided to keep the truck, he could use all this "extra" money on duct tape for the cabinets and bungee cords for the fairings that are falling off. Both are tax write offs, so you are making money hand over fist.

    Bull S#it, i have a W9 that gets better millage than 2 friends with vulvas with isx's and N14s. We all run west, their best is 5.3-5.5mpg.

    Man they really need to get their foot out of it. But, if they can get one more load a week done that way it may be worth it. If you're not getting 6.5 with an aero truck you gotta be doing something wrong. I'm always at 6.3 pulling 80k every time.... lots of I-77 and I-40.

    There is nothing you can do when you run across WY with 80k lbs and a strong headwind, the west isnt as forgiving as the east, always climbing, elevation, wind, etc. They dont run as hard as I do either, i always give my truck hell.

    plus in the end you still have an ugly truck.

    sorry, I like to have pride in my ride. It's worth the money.

    And my peterbilts over 20 years old. I own it with no payments and I still even at that age don't have to duct tape anything to keep it from rattling. After 23 years of constant use the only rattle i have is my drivers door because the seal needs replacement
