Is it a Cascadia? The miles are kind of high so if you buy it plan on putting some money into it. You should post this in the O/O section. The guys there are experts on engines, they should able to offer some advice.

What are the other specs of that truck? Rear ends, transmission, etc?

Mercedes engines are week, and they suck. Not sure how true it is; but I was told by a mechanic (with over 25 years experience) that they are virtually un-rebuildable as well. Go with something else.

Your mechanic friend doesn't know what he's talking about.

Didn't say he was a "friend" first of all. And secondly, I should have said; he told me a rebuild on a Mercedes engine would cost more than the engine would be worth once finished. To me, that is no different than "totaled". Junk!!!

I've had 2 MBE 4000 410 hp motors both 2007's. They spent too much time in the shop. { one has been in for 3 weeks now} The regen motors have had nothing but EGR and emission problems.

Even mechanics' opinions are to be taken with a grain of salt as they each swear by a different brand. I think it safe to say that the best first truck/engine is a Freightliner with a Detroit. Due to the service network and ample parts availability. It is like owning a Mercedes Sprinter or Ford Econoline cargo van. Virtually every shade tree mechanic can get the latter running again in no time. Try finding a rare part for a Sprinter in the middle of Wyoming.

    Cuerno Thanks this.
