Forget the oil industry. Get some time in over the road then decide if you wanna work and live in the mud.
Everyone always wants to brag about how well the "oil fields" pay.....but nobody ever wants to mention the crappy conditions (both work and living) and hours you are forced to endure.Trucking Popeye Thanks this. -
Yeah that's why they pay a lot cuz they know people won't go through that sh!# For little pay. You are right white dog I gotta do some time over the road first.
-
stay away from may unless you like 60 mph trucks and getting charged for idle time..
-
May charges for idle?!?
Ridiculous things these companies do to make sure you don't get a decent check!
How companies with ridiculous rules and regulations can even hang onto one driver is beyond me.
We used to be able to ask two questions when talking to a recruiter or owner. What do you pay? And what kinda of home time can I expect? Now you have to ask a thousand questions if you wanna cover everything including your butt and livelihood.
Instead of saying, "give me a pack of reds"....now you have to say, "can I get a pack of Marlboro reds, short box, kings, please".
I want the good old easy days back.Last edited: Nov 2, 2012

You will always find a driver that had a 'bad' time with any company and they are always willing to share the 'horror' story with you. I have been at great companies and there are always complete d**k head drivers that want to change the world to their way and end up getting fired, then they piss and moan on this board with words like 'BEWARE!' 'STAY AWAY!'. Mix your research between the good company board and the bad company board but always realize you are only getting the information a driver wants you to hear and not the whole story.
Trucking Popeye Thanks this. -
Thanks Dryver I appreciate your input brother, right now I like what I see and hear about FFE they are the best candidate at the moment. I've got to tie up a few loose ends here in salt lake and if all goes well I'll be at the FFE academy soon or after the holidays. But I'll still be looking at other outfits till then just to make sure I'm choosing wisely. Anybody have any other Trucking Co.'s to recommend? Big Thanks.

Good luck at FFE. Just keep an open mind and roll with the punches. Usually the difference between someone saying that a company sucks or not is the driver's attitude. So many new drivers think that they know what to expect....my advise is have no expectations and see what happens. Whatever company you go with cannot disappoint you if you don't have expectations other than: Get trained / Get paid something / Get home sometime.
Seriously - I wish you the best. -
I don't work for May, but I hate bad info being out there. Here is a recent post concerning May's idle policy.
