Any Reefer O/O willing to share a little information on some of the best load boards or Brokers that help to keep them busy.
Curious too about the lumper fees if that is an expense you guys work out with Broker in advance or is it standard for the lumper fees to come right off top of the rate you are exploring selecting a load.
Which load board/brokers is best for Reefer O/O

I used GetLoaded and Internet Truck Stop. Some of the same loads on both boards in my area. Most Brokers post loads to both. I always asked the Broker about the lumper fee. Some would say call us and we'll cover it, others wanted to know how much before they unloaded the product. Just always Ask!!!!! Make sure they include the lumper on the load conformation or the confirmation says something like: XYZ Brokerage to pay unload fee with receipt". Personally I never had any problems getting the unload fee covered or getting reimbursed for it.

I forgot the other question: The lumper fee is NOT part of the rate. Unload fees are in addition to the rate and if a broker wanted to play that game with me I told more than one to find someone else to haul it. I didn't play that game!!

Always make that statement before you except the load, who pays to load/unload as well as YOUR detention rules. Spell it out and fax it to them to sign. It takes a few seconds but is worth its weight......
trucker43 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the replies guys. Haven't worked as an O/O on the Reefer side, 14 years ago as a Company Reefer driver but always wondered how O/O worked out the lumper fees.
Love to make the leap with my own authority this year sometime but really need to make sure I can stay steady with work from brokers or a load board. Running to cheap leased on to carrier but stay busy when out running & always have loads ready to go when I decide to come back out of the house.
Hope everyone here had a Merry Christmas! Also hope you folks have a great 2010! -
The broker always knows upfront about lumper fees, multiple stop pay etc..It is part of the negotiating process. first the rate, # of stops, and lumper. all this is on the load confirmation shipper sends to broker and broker signs and fax back to shipper.

I won't do a lumper load unless I get reimbursed by the broker. I get most of my loads from internet truckstop. I've looked into 123loadboard and they don't list near the number of loads Internet Truckstop does. I'll be looking into a few others during this Holiday break.
