Just my opinion after having a couple new trucks as an O/O (bank financed) the walk away lease is a decent option in these economic times. If things go south, if the truck turns out to be a lemon, if the company decides to starve you out, you have a way out. When its your truck, man you're married too it. Also you can't sell a sleeper truck to save your life these days. Being company OTR sucks, lease you get some control over things, and there is some incentive for them you keep you moving, but its assuming all the risk too. Anyway, i'm a company driver in construction now, driving dump trucks and deck trucks, good luck to anyone who still wants to pull freight.

I know this is a old post but just found it and had to chime in. One of my old bosses told me the cheapest truck you can buy is a new one, why? no brake downs and has a warranty. Hopefully pay it off before it nickel and dimes you to death.

Frankly, most girls don't know the difference between trucks.

I thought the whole point of a lease was to own the truck eventually. If you take a break every 8 months your just renting. I have yet to see proof, that after all the payments, leasing is any better than company driving. Leasors just like to post their gross.

New trucks definitely break down. And when they break down there might not be any parts because they're all being used for new builds.

Yep, buddy of mine leased to KAG has a 2024 Petershit with an ISX. Last year 1.5 months of downtime in the dealer waiting for parts to fix multiple emission codes.

On a brand new truck with less than 75K miles. 6 weeks of lost revenue. $259,000 truck, first year lost $35,000 in revenue while the truck sat at the dealer under warranty to get fixed.

He bought it from a different dealer because they had the color he wanted in stock, so his hometown dealer gave him a stink when he brought it in for warranty, so he says.

Trucks dont get broke in till around 300k so brand new trucks are going to break down a lot till the gremlins get sortrd out.
