I really like OOIDA. But they lost alot of credibility when they got on that Hot Fuel campaign. That was such a non issue and they spent so much energy on it. Like they were looking for a fight.
Which organization helps truckers most? OOIDA or ATA

What does Diesel expand? .5% every 15 degrees. And even if you were getting 4 gallons less on a 200 gallon fill, and if OOIDA got their way and you were only charged for 196 gallons cause the fuel was hot.....do you think the price of fuel might just go up? Seriously dumb. -

The ATA, American Trucking Association, is for the management side of the equation. Read their weekly magazine, Transport Topics and you will get significant insight of who they represent and why. It is not the drivers.
The polar opposite is OOIDA the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association. They represent exactly who their name implies.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents organized labor, originally truckers( and before that teamsters-guys who handled horse drawn wagons), but have now expanded well beyond that assignment.
Each has a constituency to represent, and they all do so at varying effectiveness, depending on the subject. -
I was a member of OOIDA, debated rejoining. The two reasons I didn't, when Colorado was changing the chain law to it's current draconian levels, OOIDA was nowhere to be found helping drivers with the Colorado legislature. Hell, local newspaper did their research job for them, some good lobbyists from OOIDA could have helped, Colorado Motor Carriers Assoc. is an even bigger joke and a waste of time. The other reason, anyone who runs Colorado, especially I-70 has seen the signs with lane/speed restrictions for VEHICLES (important word) over 26,000 GVWR. They only enforce it on commercial vehicles, the logic, that the troopers don't know which RV's are over 26,000 GVWR. I contacted OOIDA and asked them if they would help us go after the state on this issue and force them to either change to signs, or properly train the troopers uniformly apply the law. They never got back to me.
