Which Reefer Co's Hire New CDL Grads?

regional runs out of portage Ind send you to St Albans VT, Waco TX, NYCity, New Jersey, Baltimore Maryland, New Castle Delaware; All the places that nobody else wants to run. Dispatchers are nice? There is only one there that will actually help you. Everyone else basically tells you to get lost and wont even answer the phone. I did the same in return. Call me all you want, my phone is back in the sleeper on charge. Keep in mind, KLLM has a STRICT policy on no talking on cells phone even with blue tooth devices...blah blah. Funny, they didn't get that message to the dispatchers who continually blow up your phone while your sleeping and or driving. For me; it didn't matter. I'll answer it when I get ready to. If you have something to say, send it over the Qualcomm so there is documentation. That's exactly why they don't want to send it over the qualcomm, it's your word against theirs. Once again, these are all problems directly tied to upper management which really tells the true tale about KLLM.

Regional runs? If you run Atlanta regional; you can expect to spend most of your time in Oregon and Washington state / Up state California. Keep that in mind for all of you thinking about running regional with KLLM. Run that out of Portage Ind, have fun getting stuck in snow storms when you're up in Augusta Maine, nobody cares; you're on our own. You'll enjoy sweating down in San Antonio with the no idle policy and no APU, that's fun. I guess Texas is close enough to the Great Lakes so that is actually "Great Lakes Regional"... Beware, you've been told...

 

Some drivers with KLLM have nothing but complaints, others are doing quite well. Even on the lease program!!!!

I would guess it is that way with most companies that have over a thousand drivers.

USX has a reefer fleet but it is team only.

Oh, and don't think running reefer means you can't haul hazmat. I use to run produce to the east coast and hazmat back to the west coast.

 

We run both as well. A washout after any hazmat is required, thank god!

Besides Central Knight also has a reefer division and they have that squire program for new drivers.

There are many companies out there you just have to do your research and decide which one is going to best suit your needs.

 

There are several out there and KLLM is one of them. I would avoid them if I were you. Why do you want to haul reefer? Have you ever done it? Let's say you have a load of ice cream, it will run at -20 continuous; you will listen to that reefer unit run it's ### off while you're in the sleeper trying to sleep. Then, you have to deal with the floor in the trailer which is slotted. Lots of #### from fork lift tires and skid #### which has to either be swept out or washed out after each and every load. Then, you have the actual fuel that has to be added to the reefer tank; so that's a pull up and more BS at the pump and get out again / put your gloves back on. Then; you have the pre trip inspection to deal with on the reefer unit just like the tractor. I've done it and proved that I can do it but hauling food product is a pain in the butt. Getting unloaded can take hours. If you're late for an appointment, you'll have to sit and get it re=scheduled which really sucks. Try it and see if you like it. I'm neutral and I'll let you make your own decisions. I just hired in with a place that hauls dry van product which is all drop and hook. I love it.

Anyhow, drive safe; check those mirrors several times b4 making any lane changes and keep a safe following distance (which is basically 12 seconds minimum in a big truck at highway speeds).

Reefer isn't hard, it's a pain in the butt. Most flatbed guys I know spend more time on workmans comp than they do driving the truck due to silly injuries. You can have that too. Yes, I'm neutrual; I'm not telling you yes or no; make your own descisiion and if you want to try it; go for it. It's you life; nobody holding you back, there's no harm in asking a question though. Crete/Schaffer has a reffer line; check them out too. They'll probably take care of you better than anyone out there.

 

You must know some really incompetent flatbedders. Getting injured... it can happen, even to the seasoned drivers. But to the point where it becomes a regular thing? Something's not right here.
