Which sections to study from the CDL manual? I'm guessing Class A, Hazmat, and Tank?

study all of it get all the endorsements gives you a wider feild of work to look for but realy go back to school and get a good job trucking is not what it was even 10 yrs ago

General, Air Brakes and Combination vehicles are the sections you'll need for your permit and PSD. Since you're getting your CDL in MO, you'll need to transfer it back to IN: The hazmat endorsement won't transfer so there's no use doing that twice, and you may as well do doubles, triples and tanker sections then.

I would recommend getting the endorsement as well. The FMCSA is changing the tanker requirements:
From landline magazine
The new definition is intended to cover (1) a vehicle transporting an Iintermediate bulk containers (IBC) or other tank used for any liquid or gaseous materials, with an individual rated capacity of 1,000 gallons or more that is either permanently or temporarily attached to the vehicle or chassis; or (2) a vehicle used to transport multiple IBCs or other tanks having an individual rated capacity of more than 119 gallons and an aggregate rated capacity of 1,000 gallons or more that are permanently or temporarily attached to the vehicle or the chassis." -
It's already being enforced in some states (Texas in particular,) and will be in effect everywhere in 2014 IIRC. We do have loads in those IBC tanks in reefer and flatbed divisions.

Why would I need to transfer it to Indiana? I live in Missouri.

Must have been someone else. It's sometimes difficult to answer these questions if one doesn't include pertinent info in their profile...

Chessguy, he means that you should update your profile on here to indicate that you are from Missouri.

I never studied the book I took the practice test of sites like cristcdl.com, there is a lot of good ones out there. Dont get hazmat cause you will have to take it twice, and if you're with a company and they want you to have it they will reimburse you. You can always get tanker, doubles/triples at no cost. I have had them on my CDL since I started driving and have only hauled nitrogen a couple times for my uncle. Needed hazmat for that, but just went up the road in a straight truck. best of luck to you though. To get your CDL you need to study general knowledge, air breaks, and combination. Once again best of luck to you!
