Where in the SW are you? I am in Phoenix. When I started I did NOT want to go with a trainer so I went to Watkins & Shepard out of Missoula, MT. Great small family company. They were great I drove for them for 6 months then I got hurt was on workers comp they upset me I left and went to Pella Windows and doors. I left Pella and leased with Prime, I started with my buddy trying to learn flatbed but that was WAY to much work so after 3 weeks I jumped over to reefer and hit the road. I had to leave Prime for medical reason I had a cancer scare. I drove port and rail or Knight for 3 months last year but I did not like not having an APU the trucks speed is based on your idle time and you cannot idle unless it is really cold or really not I died in the truck trying to sleep, then my truck was in shop when I was home they let someone use it, I returned to work and all my equipment had been stolen so I unloaded the rest of my equipment and left. Now I have a local gig that works for me.
If you don't want a trainer go with Watkins Shepard they have a good 10 day program to prepare you
If you don't care I would go with Prime they were awesome to me.
Good Luck -
I started with Maverick and must say I never expected to get treated this well or make this much with a "starter" company. Been in my own truck since Jan and will be making .48 in a few weeks plus my performance pay of .06 so I am making .54 six months into my new career. This company does not suck!

blairandgretchen Thanks this.

Also look at Halvor Lines. Don't know enough about them to give you a "yay" or "nay" but they do hire new CDL grads in all 48 states.
Your best annual pay will be with :
Groendyke Transport
Pan Pacific Petroleum
ABF Freight System - teamsters union
Depends on what YOU want also. Some drivers go for the money and some sacrifice a little money for more job satisfaction. Some drivers love hauling reefers coast to coast and some hate it, etc. Personal choice. If you go for the money, your chances of a secure retirement some day are better.
