Does anyone know what the minimum amount of chains u are required to carry on ur truck? I know this varies from state to state, but which state requires the highest minimum? I tried researching this myself for a friend who just bought a truck, but couldn't find anything.
Which state requires the most amount of chains

not 100% sure on regs but I have....
1 set of supersingle chains, for 1 axle on the truck.
1 set of dualies and one set of singles, so the trailer has one complete set, and 1 trailer axle has one tire chained on each side. -

I know my canadian company requires us to carry seven chains...Thats makes us legal for all states. I beleive cali is the one that requires all those chains as they at least used to tell you for example well today you require drive chains and no drag chain and so on....I dont understand why they cant all get on the same page about it though....IN B.C. where we get the most snow all we need is a set of chains on one drive axle...that is it!!! But they sure look puurrrddyyy on my truck....They are still in a ball of steel in my battery box. I have never used them and aint planning on it either. My life is worth more than some 3/8 hunk of steel chain protecting my butt! I just spent 3 days in Ellensburgh WA waiting for them to remove the goofy chain up thing so I could get over snowqualamie. I just dont understand how they determine when chains are required....Went over snoqualamie and they were making guys chain up, but we blew on by. Road might of had 2inches of snow on it. Got into BC where the mountain passes are 14000+ feet and 10-12% grades and I had a good 6inches of packed snow (ice) with another 3 inches of snow on top and they didnt require chains. I just dont understand why they make us chain up sometimes.

To state my original question better, my friend who just started out as an O/O is wanting to save as much money as possible. If he only needs to buy 4 chains, and still be legal in any state, that's what I need to know. How many chains must he carry on his truck to be legal in any state that has a chain law? -
I can't answer state to state.
