Me to! I'm from Tennessee, Nashville area, and just fed up with winter. Of course it's not nearly as bad as Chicago winters, but still, why even deal with it at all?

My house is 10 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. A Malaysian company just broke ground for a new resort on the strip, spending $7 billion dollars and an Austrailian company is breaking ground on another one, spending $2.7 billion dollars. Of course, all the big shots involved get permanent green cards. I don't care, at least they're creating jobs and revitalizing the area.

Thanks Chinatown. Going to do so more digging around on Nevada then as it seems like a nice spot to be in from what you're saying. Can't beat that weather! And it's less humid than texas!

Since we are on the topic, what companies will allow you to relocate? This is an issue I have come across. Some carriers will only hire a driver within a certain radius of there terminal in which state the driver resides in. No point in thinking about moving when you can't find a job willing to hire you and allow you to relocate.

Most carriers just have a hiring area and don't care where you live as long as you're in their hiring area. As you said, some want you to be within so many miles of a terminal.

A brief check of some LTL companies shows Old Dominion, Con-way, UPS Freight, all have terminals in Las Vegas. Shouldn't be a problem hiring on with any of those companies in Chicago then transfering to Las Vegas.

Several regular freight companies have terminals or drop yards there such as Knight and Watkins-Shepard.

A&R Transport shows 3 terminals near Chicago and one in Las Vegas. Good company there avg. $65K

Foodliner has a terminal in Henderson, NV(Las Vegas)

you might not have to pay any state income taxes your first few years because you may very well still be below federal poverty level...plus you get good deductions to lower your taxes too..

You should ask bumper about the difficulties he had finding a driving job in vegas...

it all sounds good until you actually get there...

he had several companies tell him to apply once he got there only to find there were no jobs. He ended up taking a regional job with gordon because it was all he could find.

you can list all these companies you find on a website but are they really hiring local drivers. And remember..you will have 1 year experience competing with guys with much more experience for the same job.

i live in tennessee and originally from ohio. As far as i am concerned tennessee does not have a winter and we have no state income tax. It is not difficult to get a local job if you live in nashville..the ltl companies are always hiring there.

We're moving back for that reason too. However. the prices have gone up and it would be nice if they didn't go up so fast. The positive notes on Nevada when I went their was to work was at companies that were based out of Calif. and paid us their wages. The area in Las Vegas depends mostly on service jobs and they all start out at minimum wages. Local driving has paid fairly good because when you off set against the cost of living it's better than you think. In 1995 I was making $23.50 an hour for a 60 hour work week. That's like making $50 an hour in Southern Calif.

Tennessee doesn't get winter weather as harsh as Chicago but I do know they get some icy stuff during the season
