I figured at least 1,000 extra miles every month. I don't see that being very cost efficient for you small guys.

For the other issue of route changing when you stop at a truck stop, I think you are not picking this as a stop or Via point and thus the GPS thinks you are going off route and will recalculate the route again and it is possible it will give you a different route. It is the internal map router that looks at the new calculation as a new route. You can always turn of "auto-recalculate".
I am going to pass the other issue up to RM to see if truck restrictions are in place. -

This may have been posted before but I couldn't find it so I thought I'd mention (or re-mention) a Chinese car stereo maker named "Pumpkin".
Basically, its an android tablet in a car stereo's body. I There are a few youtube videos out and, looking at them, I was skeptical but i got tired of my tablet mount falling off the dash all the time and/or the Bluetooth unlinking and so I went ahead and bought one.
It is the best investment in a GPS, I could have made, along with so much more.
Mine is a single din (old school car stereo size) with a flip up touch screen. It comes with Google Play installed so, basically, any app you want to run, you can.
I have Co-Pilot, Weather Underground, Tune-In Radio, Trucker Path, DAT, and several other apps installed and it functions flawlessly with them all. It also came with an external WiFi and GPS antenna.
It also has plugs for a camera and I found several "Nanny cam" apps that would probably work as a dash cam but I haven't tried that yet.
It also has an app called Torq that interfaces with OBDII for custom guages, error codes, etc but I haven't tried it either. It's not an app made for trucks so I don't know if it would work or not.
Of course, since you can download any nav app you like, it's pretty much perpetually upgradable, so long as the Android version is compatible - my unit runs Android 7.1.
Anyway, if you have any questions, message me and I'll do my best to answer them.

Sure thing. Mine is this one:
Pumpkin Single Din Android 7.1 Universal Car Stereo/Radio/Audio 7 inch Touchscreen Quad Core RAM:2GB + ROM:32GB
They have other styles but IIRC this is the only single din which, of course, is what most trucks will need.snowwy Thanks this. -
Another nice "feature" of this unit is that it comes preinstalled with a very stripped down version of Android; no uninstallable bloatware so it's very fast.
Downside is that you have to tweak the settings and download a few key components to really get it looking and running good.
If you get one, definitely look at a new Launcher for the interface. I use AG Launcher. It cost $1 from Google Play and turns the home screen from this:
To this:
But there are probably a dozen or more out there. You may find one you like better. If so, let me know
Also, you'll want to install Google's text to speech engine - also on Google Play (free). The stock one is super basic, as in,"Turn Left..."
Installing the Google one will get it running like you're used to,"In 300 feet, Turn left onto Main Street."
That's really about all I did. I have a dash cam already so I haven't played with that functionality.
However, I have qualcomm we use for logs now and I'm REALLY contemplating installing a logs app and junking the qualcomm. My only concerns are long term stability, theft, and having a DOT officer climb up into the truck to check logs. That long curly cable is handy for keeping them on the steps, lol.
BTW, I am in no way affiliated with this company, they're in China. I just really like the unit.snowwy Thanks this. -

I have both - the current top Garmin and the current top Rand. Which one do I want? Both.
The Garmin is my go-to unit that I always use. I prefer the user interface on it.
However the Rand has more capabilities in some ways.
If I could have just one, for sure it would be the Garmin. When the 780 comes out, I'll be selling my 770 and getting the 780.Dieselboss Thanks this.
