Next time it might even say Wannabe. -
Small local chains or independent fuel stops, very few big fleet and solar powered trucks, there's almost always somewhere to park.
-
The big one in Big Cabin, OK (AM Best i think) was one of my favorites.
Theres a couple on I-75 in Kentucky that I always liked, one of them was always advertising on channel 19 "nanner-nanner-nanner- pie for dessert. Both had real good home style cookin' for cheap.
The small Petro 2 in Clearwater, MN has a real good independent restaurant (not Iron skillet or affiliated with Petro) and a couple more within walking distance. -
Gearjammer in Salinas, WA and Gee Cees near Castle Rock WA. Both are independents with good food and parking. I occasionally wake up dreaming about the beer battered fish at Gee Cees.....

None of the above. I hate the fact that all of those nationwide big chain truck stops want to charge me well over $1 to refill my own mug with the flavored water they are trying to pass off as coffee after I've just pumped a couple hundred dollars worth of fuel into my tanks. I hate the fact that they want me to walk inside and wait in line to have the fuel pump turned on, then go back outside to pump my fuel, then go BACK inside and wait in line again to get my receipt. I hate the fact that they charge me extra just for the convenience of using a Visa...especially when their "cash price" is already higher than their local independent small-chain competition across the street is charging for their fuel...cash or credit same price.
I'll hit up a smaller, independent or small-chain local fuel stop. Most of them will turn the pumps on for me without me having to walk inside. Most of them will also let me refill my coffee mug free with the fuel...and if they DO want me to pay anything for the coffee (which is rare), it's less than $0.50.
I haven't been to a big-chain truck stop in over 2 years...and don't miss them one bit. -
Amazing how those little things can make your day. -
When I was out and about I was a big fan of Little America. Are they still a decent stop?

As far as the so called "name brand" truck stops, Petro hands down. As far as small independents? I kinda like the Derby City truck stop in Mt. Vernon, KY.. Free coffee and showers for truckers all day everyday if you fuel or not, nice restaurant, they could use a bigger restroom, nice people. The way they see it is how they should all see it: "Drivers are our mainstay and with the amount of fuel drivers purchase at one time being hundreds of dollars at a time, how can we NOT offer free coffee and showers?". That was what I was told by the people that run the place. SOLD!!!
