Hey everyone, quick question. Which types of trucking operations are the most intensive in terms of constant truck usage? I had inquired a while ago about last-mile fuel haulers and the general consensus was that their slip-seat operations were 24/7, with up to 15 deliveries by day (I managed to confirm this with industry reps at GATS last year). Are there other types of operations that are always non-stop go-go-go?
Which types of trucking operations are the most intensive (i.e. 24/7)?

Most towing companies that tow big trucks are slip seat 24 hr. deals
Chinatown Thanks this. -
You will get local shuttle operations that run in 12 hour shifts. I did one a long time ago between a plant and warehouse. Three shifts so the trucks never stopped. Also Schnieder slip seats thier Walmart refrigerated account out of Ohio.

The log haul I'm on runs 24/7. Most of the mills take wood 24/7/365. Christmas, New Years - there is always down loaders ready to take wood.

Fedex / UPS/ USPS 24/7 not really considered trucking per se, 24/7 operation. handles millions of packages / freight per day in the USA. Slip seating ( aircraft to Tractor trailers to package cars to subcontractors to persons using POVs)
what is that old saying? the "mail " must go through...Last edited: Mar 3, 2014

Some LTL companies run all tractors during the day for Pickup and Delivery and once those shifts are over the same tractors are out on linehaul runs (doubles). That's how some of this trucks rack up a million+ in very little time.

Coast-to-coast team operations hauling time sensitive commodities such as produce. New York City/California turnarounds or Florida/California turnarounds are good examples. Another good example is Fairchild Freight running Southwest/Alaska produce turnarounds.
