To start, I understand that the economy is still in the pooper and that companies are doing everything possible to save a penny. However, the company that I'm currently training with is suffering dearly, according to my trainer, who, as uncomfortable as it is, is too putting out feelers. I would like to stay with the company that is originally employing me, but a plan B is definitely needed just in case the ###### hits the fan. My second choices are Roehl and Crete (whom I can't join the latter until I have a year of experience according to the recruiter. Any ideas or suggestions on solid companies out there that are not lease/op for greenpea truckers? How is Roehl truly these days, without all the disgruntle b.s.?
Which way to go?? Roehl

This is a difficult question. In the past few years, we've had a steady stream of people entering and leaving. Look deep in the older posts and you'll find a different cast than nowadays. Some post about why they left, some don't.

been here since dec 08. lets see I switched from nat van to midwest regional van to be home more often, i get home every 7 days for 34 to 48 hrs. HAve little ones that need to see me more than every other weekend. MIles are steady, flat and curtain are pulling the most miles and their freight is rising. They also make alot from multiple stops pay. Good place to learn, not much better out there.

I drove for Roehl a couple of years ago,and found them to be a very good company. However I got a phone call from one of the drivers there who has since moved on to Transport America. He told me that Rhoel is now treating their older experienced drivers pretty crappy. He kinda figured that was to get them to quit, cause they are the drivers who are being paid more for their experience. Is this fact,I think it is cause this guy is one very good qualified driver. But I can say my experience at Rhoel was #### good. I hired on with them with a 15 year driver background.Only twice that I can recall that I had any problems with them, and the problem was taken care of with a phone call to my fleet mgr.Hope you ghetr started somewhere and that you like driving for a living. However be prepared to turn your life around cause it aint no 9 to 5 job.On the plus side you are pretty much by yourself ,with no one looking over your shoulder. And also just starting out it aint gonna be no bed of roses, usually you will be getting some less than ideal loads til you prove yourself.

I talked to Preacher Man, he said that they really hold your hand. If you're an experienced driver there is a lot of micromanagement that would seem disrespectful. But for the new drivers, it's really helpful.

Thanks for the insight. Yeah I realize that being a rookie the road's gunna be rough starting out. It's funny that you mentioned experienced drivers getting pushed out. It's just another way to save a nickle. However, I can't stand job hoping, I did if for the last 8 years in my prior proffesion. I sure as heck don't want to get into a lease until at I've been driving for the next 5+ years. Guess I'll just see where the road takes me... no pun intended. Heck at least I got work.
