    Hi,
I just noticed my truck is producing a significant amount of a white chalky substance in the exhaust. It is forming down the exhaust stack and even splattering back onto the front of my trailer. Any ideas what this could be from? The only new variable is that I recently used FPPF KillEm biocide additive to remove some algae build up in my fuel tanks, though I have not used it the last few fill ups and the substance is still producing.

Fluid levels, temps and pressures are all good

    Thanks,

Does that truck use DEF? I’m no mechanic so I can’t help you much but it looks like dried up DEF.

I thought about that but it’s much finer than dried def which is very crystal like and course. It is also an off white where def is a very pure and bright white

I know I’m comparing apples to oranges but I did have an older beater have something somewhat similar and found out it was the catalytic converter crumbling. But there was a mix of fine ash and some chunks here and there. You able to rattle the pipe abit see if you can hear some chunks in there?

It looks like DEF. It looks like your system is spraying too much DEF for some reason. I would get this from time to time with a Cummins, usually before a sensor or the DEF injector was about to go out, or if the DEF injector was plugged.

When you experienced it, it was a fine white, chalky powder? It was not course and crystallized like spilled def is when it dries?
