we called them "double-breasted yamahas".They were fun to drive.Got real good at all kinds of shifting.Used to take a 9/16ths deep well socket and make them old 318`s run with the big boys.Been called a liar several times when asked what kind of engine and how much weight I had.Drivers couldn`t beleive it until you pulled over and showed them.

Yeah, I had one of those hot rodded 318's in a 359 Pete with a 4x4. It used to shoot flames out the stacks. Man, that was a lot of fun when I was 17 - 18 yrs old! I think the ringing in my ears is from that truck... I used to peel the paper off cigarette butts and shove 'em in my ears. Man, times have changed!

Yeah I remember the summer trips with my father and his 318. We woud pull in for fuel and he would tell the desk clerk 2 gallons of oil also every time. But man would that thing SCREAM.

Those who liked country music called them Dolly Partons, the 318s, anyway.

My company ( I know, it's a stretch), no longer has any Cats running, the N-14s are more apt to leak running than the 60 Series. Oil and anti-freeze.

My detroit 60s smokes a lot in the winter, the colder the worse it gets.
It's funny to see at a fuel stop. I know exactly where she sits. LOL

Mhyn, your situation may not be anything serious,if you have had the blowby measured and it was low it is probably alright it just looks like crap.If you use Shell oil in it you may want to consider using Mobile or at least Delo,I hate to say it Rotella sucks, anytime I used it i would read 3 or 4 psi. less oil pressure and I would see higher eng. oil temps..It is typical to see this situation on high mileage engines especially after a hard run.If your engine was built "97/'98 and up another cause might be because they changed to spray tubes to cool the bottoms of the pistons, they used to get the oil through passages in the connecting rods but then it was changed, the combination of a hot piston and hot oil.....think what oil would do on a frying pan,you get smoke.I had tried a few different things to eliminate this including trying filters,it can be a real big mess if that filter ever gets plugged.

The ventilation tube is usually on the passenger side of the engine could be either toward the front which is the most common or sometimes toward the rear of the rocker cover.,but on alot of the newer engines the tube comes out from the rear drivers side of the engine above the starter.
