Ive only spent the night at whites once and was impressed with the food and all the stuff they had in the gun cases and what not. The quarter slide machine thingy was fun to play to. Shame they had to sell it but good to hear she refused to let peelot by it.

The restaurant was/is ok in terms of atmosphere and taste and quality of food, but it was dirty.

Also, waitstaff was not as professional as they could have been.

One of the times I stopped here. I did not have a cent to my name for a shower. I explained my story to the lady and all she wanted to know what company I worked for. She handed me a key for the shower and said. "You guys fuel here all the time". enjoy your shower. :biggrin_2555:

Yes, but wasn't that the ambience of the REAL truck stops, back in the "good ol' days" of trucking?

Flo, from the sitcom "Alice" personified the waitresses at TS back then, didn't she? "Mel, KISS MAH GRITS!!"

Maybe it could have been cleaner, but it was still a GREAT "old-fashioned" truck stop, with large portions of food, a friendly atmosphere, and over-all, BETTER than unfriendly, unhelpful, and overall, CLUELESS "this is just a job", staff at Pilots, J's, and TA's.

    Just my point of view.

Thats the impression I got when I ate there, friendly waitress and it felt like a real truckstop not a travel center.

No, i totally agree---the ambience was cool and they should, whoever is the new owner, not change it. It's got that classic 60s/70s vibe to it which is worth it's weight in gold.
But, c'mon---flys are easy and cheap to get rid of. Also(and this is really another topic for another thread---wipe the dam table off and when you wipe it off, dry it off..............etc.....)

    a) Speaking of Flo, the waitstaff at white's and virtually every other truckstop/restaurant did not have any sort of uniform whatsover and i think that's true with society in general; Where are the uniforms? Even drivers don't really wear uniforms anymore and i'm not talking about the CHEEZY LTL uniforms that companies like fedex wear---THAT AIN'T A UNIFORM. A polo shirt and slacks IS NOT a uniform and any managment that thinks so is retarded.

i'm thinking of conducting an experiment where i'm going to take a Flo/old Howard Johnson's type uniform into a truckstop restaurant and tell the waitress i'll tip big if she wears it while serving me, but i don't have the grapes to do it. If i go in with a group of drivers, i would definitely do it.

Im sick of people who dont know anything at truckstops. Had to buy a pair of mudflaps at flying hook today. None on shelf, asked if they could check the back. they asked if i needed the long ones or short ones. i asked for the short ones she gave me the long ones. Sure looked long to me.

Long ones worked just fine but i figured the short ones might last longer LOL

Back in the days when the big orange ball was in the air there they stood head and shoulders above the other 76 truckstops. Glad to hear Pilot got locked out.

Don't let my secret out. Lee Hi is much better, parking and food, and clean. toy cars instead of guns.
