Started out first year as O/O in 2019 and have been going ever since. End of last year almost put me under because of the stupid canceling of my DOT number for not getting the MC150 filed correctly.
Other than that I have been doing about the same the last 3 years. Doing good enough to get by still but not good enough to put money back like I want. It for sure is a struggle. I still see loads that I used to do before Covid pay less than it did back then.
I can make it as long as I want to work in the business. At some point, if I cant put back money like I want I will move on to something else. I am pretty close to being healthy enough to do manual labor again after being sick for a couple years from taking that #### ozempic. That #### medicine almost killed me.singlescrewshaker, Tug Toy, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 13 others Thank this. -

8 years running my own numbers with paid for truck and trailer. In mid 2022 I sold it all off and got a local job fast forward to 6 months ago I went back OTR driving a truck for a friend that has a fleet of 20 trucks. I still have one older 07 kw t600 at home just sitting thinking I was going to run that. As it sits right now I think I will be done with the whole OTR thing I will try and get onto a LTL carrier or maybe fuel something local for sure I’m just tired of all the crap that comes with OTR.

I'm enjoying hearing from the forum regulars. Hopefully more of you will speak up. It's an interesting topic. The market goes up and down but the last year it has gotten bad enough for lots of folks where the old timers are falling off. The world is changin. I'm wondering who all is rolling with the changes. No shame in coming or going though. The poll is interesting.
For me, I'm just not tired of running the roads yet.NorthEastTrucker, singlescrewshaker, Tug Toy and 14 others Thank this. -
My truck is not my sole income, it runs however much I want to run it. Got my numbers several years ago, and haul random stuff for random people who call. Got a fairly consistent several loads of feed every week, for a couple local farmers, sometimes I pull a manure tanker, (almost clock more hours than miles some days lol, but hey, it pays by the hour!) live floor in the fall, pig pen when the work is there, which was 4,000 miles last week, shoot I even drug a reefer around for a while, (haven’t done that for a couple years, enjoyed it though!) I honestly believe if I had no other obligations, I could do very well trucking full time, based on some of the customers I have made, and some I learned to know driving for dad. Purty relaxed the way I do it, not saying it’s a perfect life, but it works for me!

He was right, i might take a few months off, here or there, but I'll always come back to it, even today with traffic, parking, flip-flop whatever nonsense.
You spend 2 months away, or 2 years away, and you get that urge to just wanna stare at the windshield and be left alone.Tug Toy, Deere hunter, Siinman and 6 others Thank this. -
I have 16 trucks running and trying to sell a few to offset new ones coming onboard. You can’t get anything as a trade in of course.
What’s really helped is customer freight along with doing loads that others cannot do via niche freight. One thing that’s helped tremendously is that I also started a brokerage many years ago and it’s grown to be equal to my assets revenue wise. I don’t think the brokerage would work customer wise if I didn’t have the assets to back things up. That’s been a long hard climb these past 15 yrs, it doesn’t happen overnight.
Im still paying the same as a couple years ago but it’s still hard to bring on new and qualified drivers. For whatever reason only white Americans apply so I guess the megas must be the only ones in that pipeline other than foreigners who have started their own fleets.
Im still investing harder then ever into the business but man its not easy at all. You really have to figure out who needs help and be in a position to accommodate whatever crazy needs they may have. That’s when you can get what’s needed rate wise.
I wish somehow I could help those that are struggling. I hate to see it and wish everyone the very best. I’m sure someone could find on here where I’ve said you can totally survive just on spot market freight but the truth is anyone who’s doing it is exceptional and really has their stuff together.
Anyone still hanging on please keep pushing as it’s my hope that things are going to improve in a lot of ways.abyliks, Accidental Trucker, singlescrewshaker and 17 others Thank this.
