C12 is Awful. I drive one a lot. Always starts no matter how cold but you got to rev the hell out of it.

I like my 500 hp Detroit. Don’t care what brand you put it in. Got an old international daycab with one and a freightliner century straight truck. Both pull hills well and i get that straight truck up to 65k.

I’d like an old pete with that detroit I suppose for the interior.

I am going to add another point. I know from experience the same make truck made in one place can be a lemon and in other places a jewel. One OEM moved production to Mexico. For a long time these tractors were causing huge problems. Another example was another OEM stateside during a strike had a lot of problems with trucks being sabotaged. Simple things like running wiring into the fuse panels and not connecting them. Just saying, a lot goes into this (best) argument.

Here’s a video you probably won’t see from any truck built in the late 2000’s. 8 years of sitting and cranks back up.

I will be the first to say that video is great if it is true. A truck can sit but be cranked from time to time. 8 years is a very long time for anything mechanical to sit.

    shogun Thanks this.

I would drain the tanks, pump out the stale fuel from the lines, let the glow plugs warm up, fresh batteries, new filters with fresh fuel and push the button. No telling how many gasket leaks and issues you would chase, but it is impressive to see nonetheless.

The only time I ever saw an old engine crank after an extended sit was an old (63?) VW bug that sit for almost 13 years. All we did was change the oil replace the points and plugs, put a fresh battery in it and rebuilt the carb. Cranked up. Smoked like a stack ran rough for several minutes. Smoothed out and I drove it around for almost 4 years.

I wonder what parts get left out of those engines after the siesta on the day after the late night Tequila drinking contest where the surviving looser eats the worm. LOL

Drove a Volvo auto in orientation/training. I liked the layout of the controls. Convenient for the driver.

PACCAR needs to <edit>BUY<edit> better seats, and make hood mirrors standard. Putting those wide vision mirrors at the bottom of the regular side mirrors, right where I want to see without distortion, is pretty dumb.

Paccar, or any other truck manufacturer do not make seats.
