I am an Extra Class ham licensee. I enjoy listening to pirate radio of all sorts, from pirate SW broadcasters to Freebanders who operate within above and below the CB channels. The folks on CB channel 6 are fun to monitor as they battle for who had the most powerful signal. I’m not tolerant of interference to legit users of frequencies but I really don’t think these people on CB channel 6 cause any serious comm problems. The Citizens Band used to have millions of legit users who didn’t exceed 5 watts, stayed on authorized frequencies and followed the rules but those days are long gone. I hear ZERO local use of legit CB. Nada. Nothing. Running 100KW on 27 MHZ seems kinda pointless. If the skip is good you can go worldwide on 100 watts easily. I’ve gone thousands of miles using ONE watt SSB on the 10M ham band. Of course with AM you’ll have howling carriers beating against each other and maybe only the ones with the most radiated power get through. I spoke with a freebander trucker who was running a 4 KW pill amp on CB. He had trouble with corona arcing melting off the tips of his dual antennas. Saw a 10 KW CB station in Oregon. Huge custom ham built vacuum tube amp. It looked very professional. The FCC has more important things to do like pursuing GPS jammers. They can let CB pirates slide until all the more urgent interference problems are solved. Or they can just leave it alone.
who are these guys that use channel 6?

I'm a trucker and I have high powered equipment in here I'm kicking 1350 watts(that is clean and crystal clear) and I stay away from those idiots and their over modulated splatter boxes. I mostly operate on ch17-28 when the skip is rolling Python-222, I use my General HP40W and very rarely switch on my Amp I only use it if it starts getting rough n tough

I'm a over the road trucker and I run high power out of my rig, I use my General HP40W and my Fat Boy high drive straight 6 pill HG2879's, I operate my station cleanly and responsibly I took my equipment to a reputable shop and had it all done up so it runs clean as a whistle, I very rarely switch my Amp on unless it's getting really rough n tough. I operate on channels 17&21-28 when the skip is rolling I never never ever shoot skip on ch-19 I wish people wouldn't do that it locks down 19 and us truckers can't communicate with each other! there's 39 more channels to shoot skip on and some idiots choose 19

5kW to 50kW with massive over and under modulation and even EMI in most cases... Mostly Stryker 955 or base stations using beam antennas and whatever A/B amp hardware that is cheap
Sometimes they skip too and you hear even more people who obviously didn't survive grade school
Five seconds with a spectrum analyzer and you can see how little they know about the tech they claim to be savant with. SSB will look like bad AM
FYI they bleed to other channels do to bad alignment and not matching frequency input to amps(over/under modulation out of amp at the least). On top of probably having every knob to max on truck stop shop grade board workLast edited: Oct 20, 2022
