This economy ate my civil engineering firm of fifteen years and didn't even bother to chew it up - just swallowed it whole. I drove some back in the dusty days of '74, '75 and '76.
Did 2 years of yard work for United Parcel Service; backed hundreds of trailers on bays and could once jack good side or blind at night on glare ice in a blizzard and never put a mark on a piece of equipment. Big deal right?
Drove locally a year and a half or so and about 6 months OTR for D.W. Moodie in Plover, Wisconsin. Was a good company by the way. Also worked in Moodie's service shop and changed a lot of tires - anybody remember the old split rims?
That's my dusty old experience for what it's worth. I spent $5 grand and graduated from Southwest Truck Driver Training in Phoenix last October and have a current Arizona ADOT Medical Card and Class A CDL w/ endorsements for doubles/triples, tankers and Hazmat.
I've been through Orientation with Werner and May, but turned both down as I can't support my family on 1,800 miles a week at $0.26 to $0.30 per mile. For what's it worth I had a very positive experience with both companies up until I realized the money couldn't work.
If anybody is still with me - thanks? I appreciate it.
Here's my question. Is there a company out there where it's possible for a student like myself to earn $800 a week or so starting out? Am I just wasting my time?
It looks like my timing sucks pond water. I'm having trouble seeing how you guys are makin it out there.
Thanks again.

Gotta crawl before you walk bruh
BrunoK Thanks this. -
I'm willing to crawl and then some, but not for $540/wk. I have a wife and two kids. I may be fishin' in the wrong pond I guess. I made better than this in '75 & '76 running at 25% commission and pulling a reefer with a 238 Detroit. That was 34 years ago. Thanks for the pep talk though. I figure better days are comin'.

I'm not sorry, just tryin to get er done. Things are what they are these days and it's tough on everybody, but we just keep gettin through it. I'm a little shocked at the level of micromanagement in the industry. It seems like two steps forward and three steps back, but what do I know?

I'm in a similar situation as far as a restart goes but, the money isn't as big of an issue. My experience is a little more recent (about 15 years back). I might as well have zero as far as any company is concerned.
The industry has changed from what it used to be.

Wow $540 a week is that otr or regional? Thats plain sucky not be blunt but dang trash truck drivers where i live make 50k a year. Try a small company or a o/o, bottom feeders suck and they get what they pay for crapy drivers that dont care. I know you have to start somewhere but they are taking advantadge of newbys.
BrunoK Thanks this. -
Yeh, try a small local company. ...........I appreciate the flag...Dont tread on me!!
