Landstar by law has or is required to have a record of who they sold it to and since the truck/trailer was not de-identified it is their truck/trailer and legal responsibility until they prove the title was properly transfered before that date. Additionally, the police officer is wrong. If your husband is willing to under penalty of perjury to provide sworn testimony of what happened a description of the trailer and the tag number of the truck trailer being driven by the truck that hit him, they don't need to stop, that is a hit and run crime. That should be enough to find out who is the legal owner of that trailer on that day and they should know what company or person was using their trailer. All the police have to do is contact the owner and let them know a complaint has been filed and he could be arrested for hit and run and that under the possibility that he actually didn't realize he damaged the other truck so he could/should contact the other party to pay for damages and avoid being prosecuted criminally for hit and run, which very well could include a suspended license and inability to work, and while not likely jail time also. With driver's logs it is not hard to prove if that truck/trailer was on that road at that time and who was driving it. The legal owner may claim he was not driving it, but he (and his insurance company) is still liable for any and all damage caused by the truck with that landstar trailer at that location at that time on that day. It is possible the trailer had been sold and was not properly registered, but the last person to own the trailer is legally responsible for that trailer unless they can provide a bill of sale and/or proof they sold it. Then the new owner will have to explain why it was not registered or titled as required by law and it may be worthwhile for him to pay for your damage than to to open a can of worms of illegality that could cost him more in the long run. I suggest you take advantage of the free consultation with a lawyer for more advice. Good Luck.

All this over and I quote "all most taking it off"
What's the point? Did the $100 mirror get broke?
Watched a driver completely remove the passenger side mirror off his truck backing in a 110" dock last week. And he acted like it was no big deal at all. LOL -

All of this for the 2 guys to point fingers at each other and say "it was him" -
I think his advice has merit, he most likely saw the thread popping up in a google search, those new algorithms seem to be pulling up a lot of old stuff from forums lately.
