Long story short carrier apu AC sucks! It hardly cools the truck on a hot day.. I'm wanting to remove the under the bunk AC unit and have a mini split installed. Has anyone done this? I'm wanting to use the outside generator to power the unit.
Who has bypassed carrier apu AC unit?

Probably could find a dc mini split and go with a decent size lifepo4 battery bank.
Batteries have gotten so cheap, it's not too expensive to do.
Add a panel and dcdc charger and I bet it work great -
I've thought about just dropping 4 100ah lifepo4 batteries in the apu box and replacing the compressor with a dc one.
They are out there and available. -
Has anyone hooked up a set of gauges to check the pressures to see if the system is operating like it should and has the correct amount of refrigerant?tscottme Thanks this.

Yeah everything is showing good on gauges. It's been a problem since I had this unit installed. Part of problem is how it taps into the factory vents its a huge bottle neck.

I'm wanting to keep my generator part as its not even 10k hours yet. Would love to get rid of that box under the bed though and get that space back for tools lolSiinman Thanks this.

I belive @RedForeman has one of those installed but not with APU.

Keep your checkbook handy, the generator on a carrier apu usually fails at about 15000 hours and it isn't cheap.Siinman Thanks this.

My last one lasted till 26k hours then got rid of it that's when generator took a dump. Still cheaper then replacing parts on the engine due to idle time lol. Last time I priced one it was $2,000
