Very true and a lot of drivers who want the dream have no mechanical ability or desire to fix even the little things on the trk or trailer it's always run to the shop for headlight, wipers ect. lot's of wasted money

Its not all Gloom and Doom owning a Truck. Its a learning process and the biggest thing to learn is when you buy a truck from a Lease Purchase is that company did the Bare minimum keeping it running, when you get it you have to fix what they neglected unless you catch it in the lease and have them fix it first, I caught a lot of things and made CRST fix but not everything. But Owning the truck is so much better no truck payment for starters and your options for reducing Maintenance Costs are greatly Increased. there are many things you can do to increase your bottom line the biggest is Increase your fuel Economy, Second As a Individual you can Provide much better Maintenance for your truck and Save money there as well With Oil Bypass System and a good Oil Sampling Program. the Easiest way to reduce Maintenance costs is buy the After Market Filter systems for Oil and Fuel, Standard oil filters only filter 8 microns which can still allow damaging debris into your engine, Oil bypass can filter down to 1/10th of a micron depending on the system. Factory Fuel Filter and Davco Filter only filter fuel down to 7 microns which still allow particles large enough to damage your Injectors over Time, a FASS or AirDog system can Filter down to 2 Microns. Many owner operators that have either one of those have gone over 1,000,000 miles on the same injectors. And i forgot to Mention with Oil Sampling your not Wasting Money changing good oil and the Analysis can tell you if you are having internal engine problems early. you can Run better Tires. Recaps have a Very High Rolling Resistance which takes away from fuel Economy. with a good tire setup you can increase your tire life and reduce ware, and increase your bottom line. A Intake Air Filter for a truck costs between $100-150, a Washable Air Filter costs $450 and R.O.I. is 1 year. Companies cannot Match what Owner Operators can do, you cant make a company driver care for a truck like they own it. Breakdowns stuck but if you have a good maintenance program in place for yourself you should be able to minimize breakdowns and be ready for the unexpectedfac totum, DoneYourWay, BigBadBill and 4 others Thank this.

Please don't tell me you're one of the forum's super truckers, who thinks they should find another field to work in.

In 2008 I did a L/P with Schneider for a 2007 Pete 386 with 90k on it. Two years in to the lease I was able to leave Schneider and take the truck with me to another carrier and still pay the monthly payments to Schneider. In 2012 I paid the truck off and traded it for another truck from a dealer. I wouldn't do another lease but Schneider was good to me when I was there. So actually paying off a L/P is doable
