    slightly worse.

a gradual increase over, say, 20 or 25 yrs since I noticed it.

It doesn’t really make it better. What it does do for me is make it so I can hear more /other sounds ( guess the word I’m looking for is tone ) in that ear. I think being able to hear a bit more just helps you to tolerate it a little better BUT it’s still there.

I have that thing ringing in the ears, never goes away, as long I don’t think about it, it’s gone, it’s not there. And if someone mentions it, I hear it. Most of the time(90%) I don’t hear it. Just like the vertigo, I don’t think about it, I don’t feel it. It’s a mind game. Control it.

Not focusing on it, not letting it bother you is way different from not hearing it. It’s always there, you hear it constantly and anyone who says they don’t I would have to call a liar. Yes I am numb to it and don’t let it bother me as do most I know that have it but none would say they don’t hear it.

I think the tinnitus is is something you have to learn to cope with. There's a few things I think help in managing it.

I have found that if I do not get enough sleep the ringing is much louder. Also if I'm not hydrated enough my ears will ring louder. Part of that is because I like to drink coffee, and drinking too much coffee that also makes my ears ring.

I donn't drink or smoke but I'm sure that either one will make your ringing worse.

Avoid loud noises. Use earplugs or ear protection. One time someone wanted to go see live music and when I went in there it was so loud that when we came out I couldn't hear anything. Loud noise aggravates this exponentially.

I do have a set of hearing aids that I use off and on. Interestingly, the hearing aids have a feature that will only permit so much noise to go through them, thus protecting your ears. They are made in such a way that if I wear them driving down the road I can have them off and they work as actual ear plugs and if I were to get pulled over or anything with just a little touch of my ear, they're on.
