back when I had more than one , I has 2 to 3 of my own, and 6 leased on to me , the one I drove and the 6 o/o were almost a breeze to operate, keep track of, and or keep with the program. one of my driver had 10 times more problems than the other combined. the other driver of mine was so good, I signed over the title of the truck to him when I cut back. but over the years hired drivers are a real pain. if I did it again I would expand with o/o only.
at my age I am content to lease on to someone and run one truck. my time has passed
Who is looking to expand?

And does it seem like the worst employees are the ones that are offended that the company wants to make a profit and has policies in place to protect the company from people like them?
barnmonkey, wichris, FLATBED and 2 others Thank this. -
Just curious Bill, as far as the o/o comment, do you see that applying to open deck freight or just dry box?

No the worst ones are the management types that run a carrier into the ground. Then jump ship to the next victim , I mean carrier......
Hobby trucker moving towards retiring ......May never get there, but I can dream!BigBadBill and FLATBED Thank this. -
. I got much better in backing today! That's good!
Regarding expanding fleet wise, I know sever fleet owners mainly from Eastern Europe, who have 30-100 trucks and make a very good living of it. They are based from Chicago. But they screwing drivers badly, take a deposit before they hire them. Drivers are cheating on logbooks badly to make a living. When csa score becomes too high, they just establish new mc and start all over again.
As for me, I am really looking to expand of the profit margin will be enough to cover driver wages and payments. I know some guys who has several trucks, that are running for schneider under mileage pay and they seems to make some profit of it. I am not getting it, cause it's 1.3 per mile, but it is what is.BigBadBill Thanks this. -
No, that's shame on the carrier for keeping them.
BigBadBill Thanks this. -
No, the worst ones are the ex O/O's that will tell you over and over "that's not the way I used to do it". Those are the ones I remind why they are EX O/O's
BigBadBill, BAYOU, wichris and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thought that went without saying.
FLATBED and BigBadBill Thank this.
