I am looking to replace 1 truck by the end of the year and add 1 as well. I am not sure just how I want to do this yet. I do know I am looking at late model trucks, probably prior to egr regs in 02-03. Gonna see how this Covenant Expedite rolls and base decisions from there. I got a pretty good load of debt to deal with as well ATM so I want to grow, just not sure when. I do agree though, this is the time to get in. Looking at the past 10 years worth of trucking/transportation industry data, I believe we are on the way up, even if it is rather slow. We shall see

I know what you mean with the pre egr but seems as though they almost doubled in price lately.

1994 Volvo Wia64T $7500 has a single bunk on it and has paperwork for top and bottom rebuild less than 100k ago. these seem to be ok to me. It looked good when I looked at it when I was picking up parts. Didn't drive it though...

I am planning on leasing on an owner op in the next few weeks. Once I see how well that works out I will keep adding as long as I can manage it by myself. I am kind of going to run it the same way you did Bill with him finding his own loads.

It's a really good time to own a truck if a person can play the market. My rates this year are already up significantly over last year and the volume seems better as well. If it sustains this from here on out it'll be the third year in a row my rates have gone up.

Think the negative attitude stems from constant rewriting of tangling regulation that seems to work against those that try to do things right the most. Then there are those that carry two extra bumpers with them out of the truck stop, never pick up, deliver late, view cords as the extra safety layer & park in the medians more often than not seem to thrive. What is so negative about that? :dontknow:

Resigned from a good job with a global company making very good $, bennies, bonus etc to get my authority and start one truck show. Most of my family and friends who know about the trucking industry told me I had lost my mind and reminded me of the odds of failure. I personally think now is the perfect time if you have connections that you trust for the loads, run your own truck. I think we are at the point where one man and one truck can run legal or close enough to make it look legal and make a good living for himself and family. My glass is half full and gonna stay that way, detractors only strengthen me.

I am thinking the same way. I think finding O/O is the way to go. In my eyes it serves two purposes 1) it allows you to grow with less up front cost. 2) it is a way around the "driver shortage" for small fleet owners. My challenge is going to be finding an O/O who is willing to take the chance with a newer company.
