I would understand this statement if you lived in FL or some other market. But you are in the middle of the hottest freight market in the country. It is like 2006 in that market. If you have a truck in this market you can make money just hauling for TQL and CHR. That is how tight it is.
And be home several nights a week.
Who is looking to expand?

Since we are talking about work ethic. I am moving into my new house and the movers are here. 3-guys. Two won't stop working - good thing. Then we have this kid that wants to talk about my art, skateboarding, CA, can they stop for food going to the new house, and on and on.
Then he asks if we are hiring.
Was about to be rude and say "Yes, but not you." But thought about all the stuff he could break.
I understand the job sucks and it is hard work. That is why I hired movers and didn't ask friends to help. But suck it up Buttercup, I'm not paying for conversation.rollin coal, Cetane+, FLATBED and 2 others Thank this. -
A lot out there do not REALIZE that their ACTIONS ( in this case non working action ) hurt them in the long run at a chance for possible employment.
BigBadBill and Cetane+ Thank this. -

I think there is a problem with motivation and work ethic with todays generation. However, I also believe there is a problem with leadership as well. Our industry is being managed by a lot of people who are in the business of business more than the business of trucking. The best boss's I had were those that started out with their own truck and still had a passion for driving, that's inspiring. You really can't get a lot of mentoring from a B.A. crunching the numbers or a dispatcher connecting the dots on a computer.
It's a bit of a chicken or egg thing, but maybe new drivers haven't changed as much as those they are learning from.Derailed Thanks this. -
You get drivers that APPRECIATE what you do for them and you get DRIVERS that only think of themselves , heck I had 1 that was too lazy to call in his mileage ( paid off the hub ) on Friday but had time to whine / cry to anyone who would listen that we did not pay our drivers funny how the other 24 were paid every Monday morning

I would love to find a small fleet owner or O/O to drive for, but usually there is no health benefits or 401k / retirement plan. I would love to work for somebody that let's me be more then just a driver, that lets me look at the load boards, pick or get some my own loads, put me in a nice piece of equipment, and not just another fleet special. Would not have to be new, just legal. As a company driver nothing is worse then doing a thorough pre and post trip everyday writing up the same things over and over and over again. I don't need a pretty truck, but I feel I at least deserve a working FM radio and A/C and heat that works. I don't mind making small repairs here and there, hell most times I would prefer it over having to stop, get a ticket written up at a Ryder or Penske, and wait for a tech to do some no brainer stuff like putting bulbs in, or windshield wipers on. I will admit if it gets to the point I have to come in on my day off to work on it I would expect some type of compensation. I'd like to work for somebody that expects me to get fuel at the cheapest place possible, to let me try my hand at helping with the dispatch duties, hell if I'm making more then we are making more. I looked into the so so called affordable care act that uncle scam is pushing, it is not that affordable. I think there are probably a lot of drivers out there like me that want to advance their careers and be more then just a another company driver. I just am not in a financial situation yet where I can make the leap to O/O, and smart enough not to go lease purchase. I wish I could find someone to drive for that could put me in truck, help advance me into owner operator status, then I could lease back onto him possibly. I know both sides need to gain something out of a deal like this, just not sure how to pursue it or put it together. I just dont want to end up in another job where their is no chance to better myself , my company, or have any advancement potential.

I have too many trucks at the moment. I am running about 7 trucks but I am stuck in a bunch of leasing crap.
