If you expect a recession do like @slim shady shady and stay where you have seniority now. "Last hired, first fired."

One of the most important factors is to see how many LTL terminals each company has in your state. The companies that have fewest terminals tend to have the most work and get the most hours since they cover more ground.

I work for an LTL carrier and we are slow but I'm still getting some overtime right now, we are a hub though in a pretty decent size city.

I see you're in Tooele, Utah. Midwest Motor Express has a terminal in Salt Lake City. We've been staying busy at my terminal in MSP with new AAA Cooper accounts. Even flew in half a dozen Cooper trucks and drivers to keep up with the surge in freight.

Anyone who wants a job today can be earning a paycheck by Monday morning. That doesn’t sound like a recession to me. These are uncharted waters but we know the fed wont be able to stimulate the economy until inflation is tackled. Which leads many to speculate it WILL be a lengthy and deep recession.

We have to be careful where we get our information. Fake news has chased so many to alternative sources but we must watch with a careful eye as nearly every YouTuber will say anything to keep there fans attention. Really 99% of them are scum.

So we have official data. And half of that is cooked. We really have to be careful in taking a hard stance.

    Some things are clear tho.

The fed knows they screwed up big time by not tackling inflation immediately. ( Recall all the transitionary talk? )

They are taking inflation very seriously now and have been talking tough as well so the big corps are preparing and cutting payroll.

As you mentioned, the consumer believes we are in a recession and seeing the high prices on the shelves have reduced unnecessary spending drastically.

But, many have been spending like drunken sailors with all the free money and some have continued and credit card debt is at alarmingly high levels.

To be continued… Dun Dun Dunnn….

Recession is usually defined as two consecutive quarters of negative real GDP growth. Real is the keyword as inflation erodes real output. We had two negative quarter in the first half of 2022. The third quarter was positive, and the fourth quarter is projected to come in around 3.2% real growth.

People need to remember that prices are high on a year over year basis, because inflation really took off in 1H 2022, which is expected after all the stimulus in the last year of Trump's administration. Stimulus takes 12-18 months to impact inflation. But, on a month over month basis, prices have been basically flat since last summer.

This current cycle of Fed tightening started in March of last year so we're approaching the point where the real impact of that on the economy should be felt in the next 2-8 months. That's why many are predicting a recession that could make the 1H 2022 recession look like a speed bump.

    In before the lock.

I never understood the obsession with going to work for an ltl company? It may be a decent local job but the pay is no where near what a person can make at a good otr company. p/d routes run during the day may be a more normal lifestyle, but night linehaul would be crap if you have a family. May as well be otr and take a week off at a time and spend some quality time with your family.

Working the extra board for years, not knowing if you’ll make enough to keep the lights on, always being on call. It’s no wonder they are constantly hiring. Someone correct me if I’m wrong with how the extra board works.

In Utah I’d look at a company like Tramcor Corp pulling a flatbed or truck and full trailer with forklift. Do something specialized that other people arnt wiling to do and the money usually follows.

This guy explains the data and what it could mean and he reads from reports and news articles. He doesn’t make any wild predictions or claims. Only been watching his videos for a bit now but seems to be reasonably level headed and knowledgeable.
