My Interstate truck isnt 500 HP, and it wont run 70mph. But hey, I run solo with them and I would only recomend them if your teaming... If you are a solo driver, then your getting the bottom of the barrel as far as loads go... multiple stops, live loads, unloads. You are just filling the gaps, I cant imagine what freight will be like come January. Hopefully I will be making a change after the Holidays. IDC is probably the perfect company if your interested in TEAM. Nice equipment, Nice Terminals.
    Good Luck and Drive Safe

The only thing I have to say about OD is don't file a workman's comp claim cause you will be looking for a job! I was there for 3-1/2 years and now I'm drawing unemployment. But I was a dock worker at the time maybe drivers get treated better? Only thing I know is my so called OD family turned there back on me when I filed a WC-claim and had to have back surgrey. Boy that was a good Thanksgiving!! Can't wait til X-mas!!

Teaming for any company is a whole different deal. Teaming for a company that will run the living dog out of you is an alternate universe, one in that the truck virtually never stops. You never stop for more than the time it takes to fuel, one person fuels, one runs into the terminal for a shower and chow. You catch up on phone calls on the long lonely stretches of I80, 90, 40, and 70. both people have to be able to sleep while going down the road, even if that means your sleep time will be mostly through a non-turnpike Oklahoma. You both have to be masters of logging, safety, and defensive driving, and super attention to detail when you pre and post trip. Because it's not just you that will get injured or killed in the event of a collision or jack knife or roll over. Some one in the back is depending on you to be safe for their safety also. In that respect, Teaming, makes you a better driver. I think, But the life style will burn you out, my wife just said that she had had enough of dropping one load to rescue another at 3 in the morning on some frozen lot in Washington, just to rescue another and head back over snowqualomee. And, as we live a hundred miles south of Chicago, every time we came on or off the road for our days off we would burn 6 to 8 hours trying to get in or out of Chicago. Kind of made coming home a huge bummer. I see you're from Knoxville. Interstate is now doing orientation at their Lebanon terminal, If you would want to go down and talk to some of the current drivers and go see the terminal manager, super nice guy! I'm a big fan of Interstate, simply because they put their money where their mouth is. They told us when we started that they could run us. We just really didn't expect the honesty and reality in those words. Good luck

The risk management dept at many companies are under lots of pressure to keep the already high worker comp rates at trucking companies down. It's business, not personal.

I used to pay workers comp for employees and like any other insurance if a risk is identified, your rates go up.

I am also seeing many companies asking if you have filed for workers comp in the red flag section of their applications. A affirmative would certainly doom your app to a sky- hook into the trash at many of these companies. Just like other things like felony's, wrecks etc...

777, when you say home everyweekend, could you be more specific?

As in early sat morning to sun night kind of deal? Or friday night to mon morning?

i worked for NEMF and it was one of the best if not THE best job i've had in trucking. The only reason i quit was due to family/school responsibilities as i could not make it happen and work the night hours (linehaul). i still have family responsibilities on the weekends and if it weren't for that, i would go back to NEMF immediately.

But i'm thinking Eastern might work for me?

Hello everyone!! Hey bigblue19 how can you say not to take it personal? I had a good work record with this co and was very dedicated to them not to mention I literally hurt myself for them using there un-maintenance equipment. All of this just in time for the Holidays!! So they should keep the sh##ty worker that hates his job and get rid of me because I may be a risk factor to the co?? Isn't the sh##ty worker a risk factor also??

I went from $20hr 45-55hrs a wk driving only 10min to work- to nothing! All it took was a 10min phone call from corp to change my families future and way of living. Let me ask you a question, if someone messes with your family or in this case takes something away from them wouldn't you take it personal?? I'm sure most of us would!! Look I can care less about corp politics all I care about is providing a good life style for my family.

You see it more and more corp politics interferring with the BLUE COLLAR

I don't know what happened?? You see it more and more corp politics interfering with the BLUE COLLAR worker. Because of this I'm forced to seek a more dangerous career that will probably take me away from my family weeks at a time. Thanks for your input and drive safely!!

I did not say to not take it personal, I said it was not personal, it's about money. It does not matter how loyal or how good you worked for them. When you get identified as a liability by their pencil pusher, they show you the door. The company is out to protect themselves. It's all about what you have done lately, not what you did in the past.

Their handlers at the insurance companies prefer that they replace a part, rather then fix one and risk it breaking again. Because that is what you are, a part that makes the truck go from point a to point b and nothing more. Heck, their even testing driver-less trucks in Europe,. That should tell you something.

I go to work and I do my job to the best of my ability since that is how I was raised and how I raised my kid. But I no longer would think that I have a job for life or that the company would not cut me loose if they thought it was economical to do so, even if I was the greatest worker in the history of working. Business is business and it is not always fair.

The sooner you put them behind you and move on the better.

The best advise I can give you is to save enough money in the future so that if you should become unemployed again you will have at least 6 months worth of money to meet your obligations. I have always lived below what I can afford to because you just can't depend on a company like you could in the past

Hey bigblue19 how ya doing?? I understand what you are saying but sill think that is bulls##t no matter how true it may be. I have moved on that is why I am pursuing my CDL. MY moddow is "there loss my gain move on" So my goal is to better myself as well as the future for my family and I think I can do this upon getting my CDL. At least this will open a lot more opportunities for us not to mention more money. Thanks for your input and be safe.

The company offers to get every driver home on the weekend (depending upon where you live and this is discussed during the pre-hire interview) for at least a 34 hour reset. My average over the years is around 44 hours off each weekend. I usually roll into my home base (Camp Hill Pa) late Friday night and leave out after dinner on Sunday or real early Monday morning. It varies each week based upon the load assignment.

I think the main question is where do you live?
eastern has a limited number of openings and only hires based upon need for the region you reside in. They rarely ever advertise so it is best to call them and speak with the recruiter.

As a former Shevell employee I think they would welcome you with open arms as you are familiar with the company structure.
