Great video, @Ridgeline , though we know we an do better than the 5.29 MPG's for diesel trucks.

Today, the math for trucking is pretty easy.

    $1 a mile for fuel.
$1 a mile for labor and associated costs
$1 a mile for the truck, administrative and profit.

Electric cuts fuel cost in half. Now, imagine a driverless truck. Cut another buck a mile. Between implementation of the two, transportation costs would be cut in half.

My point is not that this is the guaranteed future, my point is that there is a tremendous economic incentive for companies to try and figure out how to make electrification and autonomous trucks work.

Really? Everything I'm reading including the Freightliner web site says that they're taking pre-orders for trucks that will be produced late this year for a 2023 delivery. They announced that they'll start production in May of this year, but they haven't been able to get many (or any) off the production line yet.

Freightliner sells 250 electric trucks to Pride Group Enterprises - electrive.com

Electric Truck - Freightliner eM2 Truck now available for pre-order (velocitytruckcenters.com)

As of September 6th of this year, Schneider still hadn't taken delivery of their new 50+ electric fleet from Freightliner. They've been beta testing a couple trucks for the last year, but my guess is that Freightliner is having some issues getting the finished product off of the production line.

Schneider National Inc. - Schneider previews Freightliner’s eCascadia Class 8 electric truck

By the way, the new eCascadia trucks come only in a day-cab for now and have two batty sizes. One will travel 150 miles, and the other 250 miles.

The "new" cascadias went into production in 2017. We had 10 of them in 2016.

As far as I know we started taking delivery of them back in September, and yeah they're day cabs but so were the first (and most of ) cng trucks. As the infrastructure builds out, sleepers will be introduced.

We're not talking about the new body style or CNG models, just the electric only models.

I know, just making a point we had the new body BEFORE it was generally available.

with driverless trucks you cut out labor but your maintenance costs are going to go thru the roof because nobody other than engineers know how to work on this stuff yet... its going to be a dealer only maintenance program when it first comes out.. and even then there may not be alot of support
