I'm a company driver and been handing in to my company my used log book 7 days after I have started my new months log book. I hand in my white copy's every few days and keep the log book with the yellow copy in the cab for inspection from DOT.

I was just told by another driver that I should keep the log book for my records and not hand the log book in at all. He states that the white copy is the company's and the yellow (log book) is mine. Is this my record or the company's?

I can't ask my boss this as he doesn't know if I should put diesel or gas in the tank, not alone a log book question.

Yes, the carbon is for the driver's records. Even as a company driver you want this to document items such as the per diem expense deduction for you federal income tax.

    Thanks for the reply.

I never have claimed any of this on my taxes before but I was told anytime I travel over 100 miles I could use the food that I bought towards a tax deduction. Do you know anything about that.

Also what is the "per diem"?

A: Yes keep the yellow. it's your copy the compny just throws it away.

B: Per Diem, this is a deduction all otr drivers can get. It has nothing to do with miles. it has to do with wither your at home or on the your. you can claim per diem for every nday you are on the road. This is why you need your copy of the log. Because if the IRS dose an addit you have to be able to prove you where on the road.

There are to ways to claim per diem. The hard way, which is to save all your reciets and claim them at the end of the year. OR the easy way, which is to just take your dayly alowince (sp) of $52.

So a company driver that is only on the road 10 to 14 hours a day and doe's 400 to 550 miles per day can't claim this I would guess?
