most companies require you to have a diploma from a school. But a lot of companies dont, such as Werner. Now, they'll still hassle you, and be like, so what school did you go to? Just tell em you didnt go and that you got your CDL with self study. :)

But you have to drive a truck to learn to drive a truck. Passing the written test is nothing, passing the road test requires knowing what you are doing! :) you need to find someone that'll let you drive a truck around the block a few hundred times.

No worry. I have a lot to learn and I have no problem taking advice or direction for my benefit, even if it is from a smart mouth.

then you should be just fine it is when one thinks they have it all learned that they tend to prove themselves wrong

If you were referring to me I have nothing aginst truck school grads as they are not the ones that are supposed to know it is the schools that overcharge them and under train them or just flat teach them wrong

hired a friend of the family about a year ago and took him out couldn't shift even badly asked how he got through school he said all the school trucks had autos what the hell

I hear the arguements also... I have had my CDL since they came out, I run heavy duty tow truck, and tow tractor trailer units in combination.

Funny thing is I also have 3 years OTR, but when I talk to recruiters they tell me that I do not know how to drive trucks. That is usually after I have towed in a combination and backed it all into a space.

Never can figure that part out. No experience they say

What! Only 29 years of experience! And you expect recruiters to believe you can drive a truck?!!!!! LOL

Really? And how did you take care of the brake test, the pre-trip portion, and several other things that come to mind that a class A requires...just spotting the BS, no offense intended, but the stuff does get deep here at times!:biggrin_2552:

Federal Regulations will soon require all drivers wanting a CDL A will be required to attend a credited scholl for a certain amount of hours for class, backing, and road training before getting a CDL.

This will be mandated by 2012.

The state of Washington is one state I know of that requires this in 2009 and the State of Idaho will require it in 2010.
