Agree with the consensus..... I'm a family man and a driver. No sir, truck on the back burner and you stay close to her. Trucking will still be there when you get back.

Do like others suggested.....mop up the CDL and be prepared for later but hang for now.

I had the chance of a Lifetime I was going to the Blue Angels as a mechanic went and met the capt. the whole bit ..........

Wow! To even be considered....... to be good enough.....( for those that do not understand the requirements, it's a big deal ) it's an honor just to get the interview and be considered.

Just in case there are any questions. I'm a woman, wife, and mother. We've been married for 12 years. He was a mechanic until May.

Our children are 17 and 12. They are old enough to help me with the physical stuff around here. They are old enough to use the phone, Skype, etc.

Our marriage would not have survived if he had taken off shortly after the birth of the youngest. This I can promise you.

Our kids are old enough and secure enough in their Daddy's love to handle the time away. A baby certainly is NOT.

Not a problem.... I'm former ATC and the nephew is a 15C A&P. He's crossing over to the F-22 ( he hopes ) and he just made TSGT. ( 3 down and an eagle? ) so I get it.

I spent the first few years of my trucking career over the road. Missed out on alot of stuff as my kids grew up. The wife got preg with our 4th, and it was a boy. I missed out on so much of my daughters lives that I just couldn't do it anymore. it was either get out or go local/regional which got me home most every night. I went to the boss and had a chat, he moved me off the longer runs which ment camping, to the more local stuff.

Now I only camp when he desperatly needs an extra truck at a location. Usually a couple nights then get to load for back home again.

I would seriously think about it for a bit before jumping in. Unless you can find a job that has you home most days then you will be missing alot and it will burn at you every night when you hit the bunk.

Hey guys thanks again for your replies! Actually it was odd cuz shortly after my last updated response my wife actually brought it up again to me.. I wasn't even saying anything and she straight out started talking about it.. We've decided (as of now) to put it on hold at least for maybe the 1st 6 months to a year.. so she can have my help.. The thing you guys don't understand why it's difficult for me to just stay where I am in warehouse is because I am at the ceiling pay wise.. Right now we are paycheck to paycheck and theres no chance of ever getting more.. Switching to a career rather then a job would allow for a more financially sound future. I know family is important, thats why I would only do OTR for experience since it appears no one wants to hire locally until you get that done first. Basically I am nearly 30 years old, with no career.. I have a job but not a career.. it's time to grow up and driving is what I've always had a passion for (I've had other driving jobs). I suppose though everyone is right about waiting though as it is important to be there as much as possible, it's finding the right time to make a move in the game of chess we call life!

Its a nightmare to wake up everyday and do something you dont want to do. On the other hand, theres nothing more fulfilling than watching your child grow up.
