Egh, we really dont have to sit as much as you think. I mean, its happened a few times, but I think thats mainly caused from how busy the shipper or reciever is.
Sometimes, we have to sit whenever we have damaged or over-shipped product that the receiver refused. Usually its because we have to wait for England to figure out what to do with it.

Wow, thats bull. As for that second one, I woulda told em...gimme that detention time or i'll give you your truck! The company i work for better not ever pull THAT one on me. They'll never hear the end of it. For some reason I suspect when i pull in the yard they'd have something to say...

Actually, that was the receiver that told us that.

I'd have to vote Covenant. Only because its my only OTR company. As my late great Father in law would say "This is as good as it gets". He got that from the merchant marines during ww2 running transport ships thru the atlantic during the wolf pack days of 41-43. Great saying when the going great tough.
I trained with Covenant in 97. After Garduating from TDI Sanford,Florida My trainer was a real yahoo from Georgia as my dispatcher warned me. But he was a great driver and I DID learn alot from him. All said here's my story.
I'm asigned to refer division to me it was a plus as you can pick up both dry and produce loads and it keeps you out of most the weather in the winter months as it was nov-dec 97. Starting off I hear nothin but nig this and that. I would consider myself not predujice but I usually can deal with it. Then it's the #### and the librals and the conutry's gone to ####. OK I deal with it. He ran hard and we got choice loads never sat more than a couple hrs anywhere other than the big distrubution centers. 10-12 waits were common.
On our final training load and heading back to TN I wake up and hear two conversations. Strange I wonder did he pick up another driver? I open the curtain to the cab and he's by himself crying his eyes out. I ask what wrong he says he missed his wife??? 30 plus years driving I would think he's over this. we were heading out of the Mountains I thing it was in Utah. Well we were haulin ### I look at the speedo 70-80 then 90mph roads were a bit icey . I'm think my god he's gona kill us both. I have a trainer with a death wish. I ask him to slow down ....... no deal he gets more agitated! #### I'm ready to bail out the door. Finally catches up to some traffic and is forced to slow down.
My turn to drive and he hits the sack. My best day on the road ever 10 hrs of silence while he sleeps last day of training and dispatcher promises Christmas leave as it was dec23rd. I would have just enough time to make it home. well to make a long storey short on his next turn driving the dispatcher asks us if we want a hot load out of Dalton ga to Greenville PA which would ruin my home time for christmas. I say no I want to be home with the family. He says ok no argument. I hit the hay. I wake up on the deck he takes the load while I'm asleep hooks up and tug tests the trailor so violently it sends out of my bunk. I jump up and a second tug sends me into the windshield/dash. I'm like what the ****???
I calm down and we finish the run the next morning while he's driving we pull in to the terminal in Chattanooga. He wakes me up to saying the DM wants to talk with me...ok I say ok and follow him to the DM office. Where the DM asks me why I almost pulled into the fuel island and almost took off tghe top of the trailer (never happened) trainer completey fabricates the lie says he saved it from happening.
I explain the story same as I did here and DM sides with the trainer says I need to pay my dues. I agree ok no problem. Send me home training is done ect....
While at home I find myself more and more POed that they took his word for it over mine. I had a pycho trainer I did a great job ect.... I cal;l the dispatcher he says he's finding me a team co driver and sit tight,
I use that extra time to find a local ltl job at home (central Florida) hauling paper product for local business and schools. I don't regret the decision as I wasnt prepared to spend so much time away from home as I had a young son and wife. The LTL job provided a great learning opportunity 10 hrs a day it old beater trucks with wobbly wheels no AC in Florida heat loading my own truck and everyone elses etc in a tin building with no air circulation at all.
I end up developing diabeties and get a desk job from 2002-2010. I'm now no longer insulin dependant and am leaving tonight for another training company in Iowa.Wish me luck hope they don't bounce me due to not risking the medical issues.AfterShock Thanks this. -
Well, unless my old math is incorrect, which is very possible, here is my take on this survey:
Swift has 16K units, JB has 10K, Weiner has 8K, NewPrime has 4K, and covenant has 2.5K.
So I'd say the correct (adjusted) score would be :
Covenant 1500
Swift 1380
Weiner 1300
JB Hunt 1025
Primo 0950
These figures are rounded and not exxact, but are much more accurate, in my opinion !! -
My vote has to got C.R. England as the worst of the worst I just got my CDL from there and was sent home to wait 6 to 8 weeks now for a trainer to contact me to get some OTr experiance they sux hands down !! And now I owe them $3,395.12 for the CDl !! What a sucker I was !!!!!
banjer picker and AfterShock Thank this. -
They sent you home or did you go home on your own, if they sent you home I wouldnt think you owe them anything........... -
Can you add Beacon Transportation, and First Fleet because they just left a driver that was very sick stranded up in Virigina in the Hopsital there.
