    I worked as a mechanic for Swift at their Auto Haul division in Selkirk, NY for a little over a year. Some of the things I saw there was enough to make a preacher take up drinking.
    Had one "kid" come in with his truck, getting ready to pull his first load of new autos from the freight yard. He was 23 years old. He drives across the road to the freight yard to begin loading and comes back about an hour later with bruises on his face and hands. He tells our service manager he has a "slight" problem with his truck. We walk across the road and find a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee laying on it's roof in FRONT of the cab of his truck with the cowling of his truck crushed. Seems the poor chap misjudged his distance when backing the new truck onto the carrier and backed it OFF the front of the trail where it crushed the front of the truck before toppling onto it's roof.
    Come to find out, the kid had only received classroom training for the autohaul division and had not actually been practically trained for the job. So, the kid is thrown into a position he had no business being in, but was too naive or stupid to say something to get out of it.
    More times than not I find that it's a two way street when it comes to drivers being taken advantage of. This kid got fired, lost his pay to cover what damages could be covered, and got a black eye on his DAC, all because he didn't step up and say no to trying to do something he simply wasn't qualified to do.
    I spent ALOT of time fixing problems with Swift trucks that were the direct result of stupidity on the operator's part. Had a guy decide to "sneak" off the main road to have a little rendevous with a woman. Imagine what he had to say when he laid his brand new Freightliner Columbia and the trailer it was hauling on it's side on this old, derelict dirt road. According to him, the truck "slid" off the road as he was driving, but it's unclear just what was actually taking place inside the cab with the woman at the time of the mishap. Some people just do stupid stuff without thinking about the consequences. He had a fine time explaining to his wife why he got fired from Swift. :biggrin_2551:
    But, with all this being said, I also voted for Swift being at the top of the crap list. If the proper time and resources were invested in these new recruits, it's entirely possible the reputation of this company would not be so bad and more drivers would enjoy their tenure there. In my opinion, it all falls back onto the management of the company. the trainers and drivers can only work with the resources given them by the company they are working for. Again, just my opinion.

    Aren't there some sort of stops on the fronts of those car carrier decks to prevent that sort of thing?

    Rollbacks designed for carrying small cars over top of the cab have those.

    I'm fifty years old tring to start a nwas convicted of two felonies. new career as a trucker and all i ever hear is how bad swift is.If i can get into this industry through swift i'd be dancin in the streets. Twenty years ago i was convicted of a felony.Is it that hard

    Joliet, you may be able to get that old felony expunged. In my opinion, you've done your time. Society doesn't need to beat on you anymore by denying you a good job. Call a lawyer and ask him about getting your record sealed (expunged).
