Prime is the last place you want to put your future in. I will quote my Fleet Manager " If you choose to run solo without a student I cannot keep you profitable" So I choose to not have a student and I got a whopping 1400 miles last week and was -$275.00 for the week yeah that's in the NEGATIVE. This is a common statement from Fleet Managers here, Prime has and is going to a Team only company and then the teams are not making much money either. Running as a team here the trainer averages about $1,200 to $1500 a week after you pay the $600 guarantee to the student. that includes living in the truck with a stranger.

Avg Pay per mile as a Lease Operator is 95 to $1.05 cents per mile with fuel surcharge and you get about 3500 to 4500 a week as a team in miles.

Prime chooses to keep increasing the size of their fleet even though freight is slow. Rob Low the owner has this pie in the sky attitude that he need to position himself for when all the other trucking companies go out of business, even though he is running his lease operators in the hole, he doesn't care he is making a couple hundred dollars a week off your lease each week and 28% off any loads you pull and if you quit he has THOUSANDS of drivers willing to take over that truck and the truck payment. they brag in the office that they get 8,000 to 10,000 calls a week from people trying to come to work there.

If you have 40 years experience, then you might have known to tell the man at the park he will lose his house in a lawsuit if he has an accident driving a truck, even if not at fault, the plaintiff will find a way to show that the truck is at, say, 10% fault, so 10% of a mega lawsuit is a lot of money. Also, with your experience, you would surely be aware of all the ways a trucker can become an accidental criminal, such as log violations. I recently read in a trucking magazine that California has about 14 drivers up on felonies for over hours and falsifying logs. It don't matter whether these violations are on purpose or an honest error, the cops never believe your excuses. I read in the newspaper about a trucker in Illinois that got caught driving 1 hr over the 10 hr rule back when we still had the 10 hour rule, and he falsified his book to make it appear legal. He was busted a felony for being over on hours and another felony for falsifying his book. Each felony carries a penalty of from 1 to 3 years in Illinois. He got a lawyer and had a jury trial, was found guilty, and sentenced to 2 years on each count. While he was serving his 4 years, the log laws were changed from the 10 hr rule to our present 11 hr rule, so what he did before prison became legal while he was in prison. And I expect that Illinios would have had to release a burglar or a rapist early so as to make room for this trucker who drove an hour over. And I personally spoke to a man who said he was not a trucker, but his daughter was, and she was pulled over for speeding on the interstate through Reno, NV, and the cop was able to determine that she had falsified her log book and she was up on a felony over this; her dad was beside himself with worry over this, and I have no way of knowing how this turned out for her. I know a driver who pulled over on shoulder of the interstate in the state of Washington; a cop came along and gave him a misdemeanor because it is a crime to pull a truck over on the shoulder of an interstate or highway in Washington unless it is an emergency. I personally got a misdemeanor from Idaho for failure to stop at a port of entry; the rising sun was shining into the sign which has a weak backlight so it appeared to be off, and my route didn't take me past the scale to notice anything about it, the scale was off my route and out of sight. My lawyer struck a plea bargain to keep me from doing jail time, but nothing could be done to reduce the misdemeanor so I became an accidental criminal. I lost some rights in my home state due to having a misdemeanor on my record. By the way, my lawyer told me that a lot of common traffic violations in Idaho are actually misdemeanors. So there's really no way to know what kind of a criminal record we might pick up driving a truck. Oh, and did you point out to the man in the park that the best way to judge an occupation is by the turnover? And that the average driver turnover during a normal economy is reported to be 130 to 150%. No honest man can say there is more good than there is bad and recommend any industry with turnover like this. There are options besides trucking, even in the current economy there are some states with low unemployment where a man could go to work temporarily until things get better at home, or relocate his family, such as the Dakotas or Wyoming, to name a few. Also, you might mention to the potential recruit that if you Google "top 10 most dangerous jobs" you will find trucking on the top 10 list. One thing I'll bet you didn't forget to tell the recruit was to be sure to mention to the recruiters that you referred him so you will get the bounty money. Shame on you.

You seem to be taking issue with the spelling of the word "focus." You will obviously be surprised to learn that there is not a mispelled word in that comment. Eventhough there isn't anything technically wrong with the grammer of that comment, I generally don't get bogged down on sentence structure on this site as some of the readers have demonstrated that they don't really have much depth in education, for whatever reason. This of course is demonstrated by the person to whom I had originally directed my comment in the first place. Why be so critical? Because of all the negatives that are directed toward our industry each day, most ALL of it is brought upon us by those who have demonstrated that they have very crappy attitudes and have choosen to not take advantage of a decent education. The men and women of the trucking industry could be a great deal better than most of the rest of America, they just choose to be sub-standard. Then they want to complain about their predicaments. THAT'S WHY!
