Why #1...

Why, in nearly every thread, do people come in and say, "I want to get into truck driving. How easy is it to get a local or dedicated route, cause i have one heck of a sexy wife who don't wanna travel plus there's the issue of the 12 1/2 kids at home, and the dog don't really get along with the cat that well, plus I have a hard time sleeping in a bunk and don't like truck noises at night, so I need alotta home time..."

Back in my early twenties, I had two relatives who were truckers. They invited me....and I wanted to...but I had just married this sexy lady and she was expecting our first. Still, I dreamed of driving a truck. But two more kiddos came along. Birthday parties. Christmas and Thanksgiving. Grade school, back yard football, church events, jr. high, more football, band concerts, plays, awards, high school, more football, district championships, area championships, regionals....band competitions, area champs, state ranked, state silver medalists, national invitiationals...graduation...first days of college...summer vacations to Yellowstone...Mt. Rushmore...Crater Lake...Durango, Co....Washington D.C....Ocean City, NJ...Philly...NYC....Niagra Falls...Bar Harbor, ME...Jedediah Redwoods...camping on the Pacific in N. Cali....I was there for every celebration and victory...I was there for every hurt and defeat...I cheered on my sons....and I wiped tears off their cheeks...

today they are grown, and making their own way down life's road...my wife and i have both wearied of our jobs....so now, thirty some years later....i hear the call of the highway...

my point is this...those days with your wife and children are of great value and cannot be replaced or relived or redone...your children will remember your being there throughout their lives.....or not...

i did not get into trucking when i felt the first tug....but i don't regret that decision....I have done the work that the Good Lord gave me to do...raise my family with a daddy present....now i can go out on the highway....without regrets....

the purpose was: stay at home with your wife and kids if you can...they need you....
