On Feb 11, 2013 my tractor and container were stolen from the Walmart parking lot in St. Cloud Florida. I was loaded and had to be in Weston in the morning. I called St. Cloud police department and they took a report but did no investigation. A bolo was issued on my truck 6 hours later. Why? Orange county Sheriff found the container, empty 2 days later. My tractor was found 10 miles from the trailer by a DOT cop 2 days after that. St. Cloud Police refused to do a forensics investigation on the truck. Why? Then on Friday of the same week I was expecting my settlement at 1:00 pm, and viola no pay. My company said I had to pay a $2000 deductible on the lost load. Why? Here I am with absolutely no money. Then the tow truck company called and said the truck is ready to be picked up. The gentleman said I had to pay $550 to get it out. I called my insurance company and my "adjuster" said it could take up to 3 months to get my truck out if they pay or I could pay it myself and then be reimbursed. With what money? Why am I being punished? I am about to lose everything including my home due to this, someone please help.....

I am so sorry this happened to you... And I know these next words will sound harsh, but... If you are surviving on such a slim margin that you don't have $550 to get your truck out of hock, it might be better for you not to have your own truck.

Dont get me wrong, I KNOW things can happen one right after the other... Been there and don't want to go back!! But this might be a blessing... This might give you the out you need to get another job. One where you don't HAVE to have money saved for those 'just in cases'.

I sincerely hope you don't loose you home... Good luck to you!!

I just started this Owner Operator thing. I am not giving up that easy. I was just looking for some advice, positive advice. I am 1 month into it. Um, not giving up. But thanks for your comment. It's like saying you're sick in the hospital so you give up on life so it doesn't cost you more.

Ok, the co. is being a sheet head so you need to start there. YES there is a deductible that you owe but they don't have to clean you out. They could let you pay it out. See if you can work that out.

Now, where's your money? Why don't you have $550? Can you write the hook a check? Get the carrier to do a Comdata ?

So as you see I keep going back to the carrier. It's you problem but he could help you out....... appeal to the uppers, rapidly! And good luck.

Your being punished for the same reason if a person was to break into your house and you shoot them it's your fault for having a truck look so tempting to be broken into just like your house that looked so tempting it is your fault sorry for the bad luck your reliable for this one

Truck was locked and it was parked there while I went home to shower. Sheriff's office told me it was the 18th truck stolen from there in a year. Cameras seen it all but the security guard did not. My insurance guy said it could be 3 or more months before the insurance will pay anything. Due to it being Lloyds of London. I think I am gonna get me an Attorney. I have the $550.00 but shouldn't the insurance pay for this? I forgot to mention loss of wages to the insurance guy. He's gonna sheet. Up to $3500 already.

Insurance doesn't cover everything and there is always a copay, otherwise people would use insurance any time there is a problem instead of paying out of pocket. Problems will always happen in life, so it is pretty much mandatory that you save up in these situations.

Having a vehicle stolen can be a financial nightmare. My repair shop had one of their service trucks stolen, and it was found some time later, trashed, several states away. To pay the towing and storage fees would have been more than the truck was worth! And the insurance was no help.
