If I had stayed a mechanic instead of becoming a driver I probably would have become a drunk as well. Why?

From having to put my hands into what an engineer thinks looks good on paper.

Liar, only sober bricklayers are the ones that are waiting to be paid :p (tongue in cheek except that when i was in construction (about 5 years of it), the foreman was usually sober on the job, but thats it.)

Certain Trades seem to be full of Alcoholics. Tool and Die, Mechanic’s, Sailers, Santa Clauses. Lol. Plenty of Alcoholics in every line of work. I’ve often wondered myself about certain Mechanics and their dispositions. A lot are smart enough to be Doctors. Same type of thinking involved. A friend of mine, referring to his Brother, thinks it’s a mental thing. His Brothers so analytical, and such a perfectionist. Great Diesel Mechanic. Very serious, and a real jerk. Lol. He was very Successful, in Business. Total Alcoholic. He alienated his family, with his expectations and intolerance of others, and the World in general. Sad, he took himself and Life in general, too seriously. Now his Sons run the Business he built. They’re both Excellent Mechanics. But also turned out the same way.

Maybe his favourite girlfriend/boyfriend left him years ago . His dog died etc etc . People in all walks of life drink for various reasons . Some quit over time some don’t.

Generational thing probably as well, in my experience the younger guys don’t drink like the old mechanics do/did.

I was a drunk HVAC delivery man at one time. Left the bar at closing with a 6 pack to drink on the way to work to sleep in the parking lot so I wouldn’t be late.

I was by no means brilliant or anything close to it. But I was a really good drinker. Like really good.
