I do P&D and aside from my break sometimes you get all your freight dropped early and if Thiers no drop n hook to keep you occupied your just waiting for pickups. Doesn't hurt the OT either haha

I'm one of the steering wheel sleepers. Drive all night and then start dozing, gotta catch an hour nap. Plus, I don't want to get done to early- arrive back at the yard with more than two or three hours to spare, and they throw on more work.

While I agree with you, I'd take that one step further and say that probably 90% of ALL trucking jobs suck. There are people giving up their entire life for 40-50k a year. Bring on the apologist who are bound to say "I make way more than that to give up my entire life". Talking in averages here.Last edited: Jul 30, 2015
Mudguppy Thanks this. -
Driving 55 all day makes me sleepy.

I haul strictly OSOW heavy equipment for a local company, and aside from the occasional shotty day here and there, I love it. Although, TBH, I live and work in mostly semi-rural and rural (some downright backwoods places too!) areas, so I have more of an issue getting stuck in muddy, goat-trail jobsites than I do fighting traffic. But the occasional foray into Jacksonville truly sucks if I happen to be unlucky enough to hit PM rush hour traffic. Never before have I been downright scared of freaking Prius's and Accords while running 8 axles, over 150k, and 12'+ wide!
Bottom line, like I said elsewhere....I enjoy coming home to my compound in the woods every night, maybe running the tractor for awhile, or pulling out a firearm or three and lighting off some rounds to relieve the days stress and unwind. Can't do near that OTR.
I'd never go back myself......Cody1984 Thanks this. -

A part of me misses the simplicity of OTR. But i cant go back. The pay just isnt there for having to be away from home your entire life.
They say you have to be tough to be a trucker. But i say you have to be tough to be a local trucker.
Dont flame me now just my opinion...
