If you never plan on working on your own truck then get a truck that's an absolute pig to work on. When the mechanic does a crappy job because he's standing on his head or the shop charges you more for standard work then you'll understand. Older style Pete's were widely accepted as one of the easiest trucks to work on by mechanics. Obviously the newer trucks of all makes are harder to work on then the older ones. And long hood trucks generally ride nicer and are easier to drive in my opinion. Not having the engine doghouse in the cab makes the cab quieter and cooler also. One other thing is when scaling loads a long hood trucks front axle doesn't change hardly at all when it's loaded. So you rarely ever worry about being overweight on the steers. At the end of the day you have to like driving the truck too. That goes a long way to me also. Good luck

Looks usually, although anyone can make a big hood look cool,

I actually like the standars hoods with the big hood skins/grill on them, kind of like the 359 hood, which I actually like with the short hood/bunks/wheel base being period correct for the length laws.

not saying it as a bad thing, but it really takes a special touch to make a standard/short hood pop like a extended, and being someone that likes small details on a plain truck is what I personally look for, your opinion may vary

Prefer the short hoods, 389s and W900B, for looks.
But prefer set back axle trucks so I can load up the steer axles and tighter turning. 367, 567, T800, T880 among many other non Paccars.

The cab on the short hoods sit taller. Makes them an absolute B!T€H to get in and out of. But better ground clearance and short hoods have the cool vocational look

Cab on the short and long hoods are the same height, if they’re both 379’s. 378’s mount the cab, fuel tanks and battery/tool boxes around 4” higher than a 379.

Oh, quit showing off,,, I can't think of a single useful purpose for a long hood, other than looks. They are harder to get around, almost impossible to get any weight on the steer, and are best with a reefer behind them out in the desert, neither of which I'd ever do again. I think people find that stuff out the hard way,,a 1/4 million bucks in,,.

Then if that’s the case, would you say I should save some money and get a FL Classic XL instead?

I just like trucks with flat hoods. There's some short nose Pete's that I really like to but having a short nose is like being the kid with knock off nikes vs the real thing. A couple degrees off cool.
Actually I don't care, drive what you want and have pride in it either way.

But a long nose Pete sure is easy to work on, the entire engine is exposed, nothing under fire wall

HA! You're a funny person,,ah, no, not that there's anything wrong with a Freightshaker, just that I'm a Pete guy, and for me, it was worth going around a scale in my Pete, which was a "medium" hood. I guess all those years driving Fords and Cornbinders, hanging on to the steering wheel for fear of loss of control, and seeing these guys cruise by me in their Petes with one finger on the wheel,,, when I got my own Pete, it was such a welcome treat, it was worth it.
