Oxbow and Rubber duck kw Thank this.

As someone said Peterbilts are extremely expensive for parts. And their parts Network stinks. Even if you can find it, you're going to pay an outrageous amount of money for whatever you're looking for.
Even used parts from a scrapyard are outrageously expensive. It's like if you call the junkyard and say hey I want parts for Peterbilt they just start adding zeros on to the end of what they're going to charge you.
Every truck has its own idiosyncrasies, but these trucks the windshields leak. It's not uncommon that it shorts out the electronics on the truck and you have a problem. It's extremely common the heat and air conditioning don't work right and you either sweat to death or you freeze to death. They also are very uncomfortable and the controls on the dash are nowhere near even convenient.
And someone said something about he doesn't know anyone that has a Peterbilt that wishes they had a Freightliner.
Well that's just kind of describes the Peterbilt Folk.
It's like many years ago I was delivering building supplies. And I went into this development and there were these gigantic colossal homes and they were each on a little teeny tiny patch of ground and their neighbors were literally a stone's throw away. The house literally took up 99% of the ground and they just had a little patch around the house. If they had an argument their neighbors would hear them. If the kids came outside and just very gently threw a ball, it easily could hit the house.
Well the people in these neighborhoods we're people that kind of had the attitude like, I want to drive my Mercedes and live in my Toll Brothers Home. By the way I live in a Toll Brothers Home. By the way I live in a David Cutler home. By the way I am high social status and look at me where I live.
And I look at it thinking well I think you're a moron. You spent $1,000,000 on a gigantic house with cathedral ceilings that is incredibly difficult to heat it's going to cost you a fortune, you have no privacy, and you have a little teeny tiny crappy piece of ground with a couple of Blades of grass, and if you ever have a fight with your wife the whole neighborhood is going to be in on it. To me that person has zero brains.
But they're funny because they walk around going I live in a David Cutler home I live in a Toll Brothers home..
And me, I think if you weren't such a moron you'd take a million dollars and go buy yourself a reasonable house and have a nice giant piece of ground maybe five or six acres or more and you can relax and enjoy yourself without everybody being up in your grill. But for them it's not about what they like because what they like is to be perceived as having what is perceived as higher Social Status. If that is inconvenient or uncomfortable or extremely not practical that's not the issue. Just look at me look at me.
Different Strokes for different folks but to me those people are out of their mind and they're not wishing they had a reasonable home with ground and privacy. They are just trying to do what they think everyone else wants to do and tells them they should do and if you are successful then that's the way you're supposed to show it to everyone. It's very similar to the Peterbilt Folk.
Because the Peterbilt folk will say so I spent a colossal amount of money for this truck. So I can't turn it around anywhere I wrestle with it constantly. So parts are hard to find in my windshield leaks and my heater and air conditioner doesn't work right and it's cramped it's uncomfortable and no matter what parts I can't even find for it will be outrageously expensive. I know when it's time to rebuild the Caterpillar engine I'll sit down and cry because I have to remortgage my house to do it... But I got the big pete with the big cat! I'm the Envy of the Lunch Counter! I'm the Envy of the guy on the internet he told me I had to have it to be a super trucker!
Much like the people in those ugly sickening disgusting of noxious homes, it's all about look at me, I've arrived, I'm a big shot. I have what I think everyone envies therefore if I have it I'm better.
It is really a sad mindset that is based on ego and mental weakness.
And if that's what you like,... Okay.
I can't comprehend it I don't want to comprehend it and just like the people living in the Toll Brothers home makes no sense to me but if you're happy...
Be happy spending your money and dealing with the other issues if you feel that puts you in the social stature that is what you need to feel better about yourself I guess.
And the real minority that for whatever reason just plain like them, congratulations enjoy it.Last edited: Feb 24, 2022
Snow Hater Thanks this. -
@Dino soar i get it and understand that a Pete is the “king of the road status” symbol at almost every lunch counter. I’m not looking for that. I just like the look of the stacks and reason why I’ll consider a FL Classic or a Coronado. Cost of maintenance is a big factor and I know for sure FL’s are inexpensive to maintain with a S60 as per overhaul prices on a S60 is about 1/3 of a CAT.
I really am leaning towards a XL or a Coronado now because of said issues. Now just waiting for prices to crash. -
-
By the way, you can overhaul a Cat for considerably less than most people think. The trick is finding a good independent shop that doesn't think they have to charge dealer rates. -
No matter how you look at it a DD-S60 is the cheapest of the three engines to work on. Specially that 12.7 from my research. -
My dad worked at Peterbilt in Sioux Falls back in the 80s just so you know this thought process doesn't come from nowhere. "Charge them extra because we'll never see them again" was apparently a well used phrase there.D.Tibbitt, Oxbow, exhausted379 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I’m at 224 in wb at moment so a 250 in wb with set forward axles on a XL/Coronado is going to be a luxury upgrade. Specially if it has front Air Bags.
