Take notice some time on an under-inflated tire the curvature of the top of the tread will be inverted. Extreme cases are very pronounced.

When is the tire is rotating at highway speed the inverted center section will be flexed out towards making contact with the road surface for part of the rotation causing a higher percentage of flex... And localized heat.

Side note, On radial tires that are recapped this is actually the area where tread separation can begin usually...(center hot zone)

** Underinflation causes the greatest flex in (2) areas, center tread section and sidewall.

The shoulder is actually one of the strongest areas in the tire.

    Hahaha tire tech day today

    Under inflation for $500 Alex.

Those chunks missing, I'm going with wheel spin for $500 with an empty trailer or BT.

Park in the shade, or at night, let truck sit 8 hours or so, check tires with a good gauge, 120 psi, not 1 psi less. And especially on hot days slow down if your hauling ###...high speeds are hell on tires. If some idiot behind you doesn't like the speed your doing, they can pass you.

I wish it was the air pressure issue, it’s sitting at 119.5 with the truck not driven for 12 hours

It seems like the axle in front inner tire has started to do the same thing.

Hmmm... did you run a regular route with some irregular rutting (tracked vehicle scars? Road gouged out predominantly by a different class of vehicle with different wheel spacing?) that would bite into your inners like that?
