Thanks. And I am sorry if I offended anyone. The people at the recycled cardboard plant there are my favorite shippers ever. You hit the lot and they load you up. No waiting at all. The place is off 150 and 71 highways.

And again, sorry if I came off as a bad guy.

I've sat at the house here the past 3 weeks because I don't move cheap. Did a load last friday night $1,400 on 263 loaded miles, I had 589 all in. About to do one right now for $1,400 that's 180 loaded miles and 590 miles all in right back home. Like guys say, you can sit at the house and go broke just as easy as running for nothing. I can park the truck right now til Dec 31 and call it good if I want to or I can run 2 more loads like these before the end of month and finish July covering all monthly household and truck expenses and break even - working 4 days out of the month. With dummies out there doing it for nothing all day every day you have to figure out something better. Been shaking my head at what I've seen out there the past few weeks.

You and me both. It's been tough to squeeze out better than $2/mile for van loads since around the 4th.

There are too many truck drivers and not enough businessmen who own trucks. Too many buy more truck than they can afford so they think that they cannot afford to sit and wait on a good paying load or deadhead to a better freight area. If I take a load to a bad freight area I always get enough going in where I can afford to deadhead out to a decent freight area. If the broker or shipper doesn't want to pay my rate, then I don't take the load. I turn down way more loads than I haul. This is a very competitive business. There are no longer government controls on rates. It isn't necessarily the independents who are hauling the cheap freight. It is being hauled by major carriers and owner operators. You will find cheap freight haulers in every part of the business. With some, hauling a cheap load to get back to their good paying customer is part of their business plan. They will average the rate for the turn and come out with a decent rate. Personally, I believe that I should make a fair profit on every load that goes on my truck. Rather than hauling a cheap load I will deadhead to a better area or wait for a day to see if something develops. As long as there are those who continue to haul at the cheap rates then we will see cheap rates. This past week I have seen rates below $1/mile and over $6/mile. I think that rates are generally lower than a month ago. There are still some good paying freight around, but it may take longer to find those loads. As long as you can afford to sit or move the truck and don't get in a hurry to throw something on the truck, you can find better paying loads. This has always been a supply and demand business. I just wish more would consider it a business and refuse to haul the cheap freight. I have no control over their business, but I do have control over my own business. I don't run every day. When I do run I get decent rates.

I WISH MORE PEOPLE THOUGHT LIKE YOU THEN NO ONE WOULD HAVE TO SIT OR DEAD HEAD IN TO GET GOOD FREIGHT AT LEAST LOW RATES THEN WOULD BE 1.80 OR MORE A PERSON WOULDNT MIND HAULIN A CHEAP 1.80 TO GET TO MORE BUT WHO THE HELL WANTS TO HAUL FOR .80-1.00 JUST TO GET HOME OR GET TO BETTER FREIGHT.Theres always gonna be waiting or hauling a load you really dont want to but #### a 1.00 is crazy and the big companies dont care even though they dont have enough trucks if they putan owner op outof business.Like you said we just need more business men/women than we need truckers.

I actually missed that load last night. Somebody got it for $1,000 because they had a little time from when I quoted a price. Am I complaining? No,that is still a good rate but not for my deadhead Somebody could have taken it for $600, and it does move for that, makes no difference I'm not going to cry. Sometimes you get them sometimes not, doesn't do me any good to gnash my teeth.
