Saw several 2012 Prostars Sleeper trucks with the Maxxforce engine sell for less than 2005 and 2004 9200's with Cat C-13's at an auction in Fort Worth a few months ago. Nobody wants the Maxxforce. The Prostars with Cummins sold at much higher prices. The engine makes all the difference.
Why are Prostar trucks cheap?

You can probably find one for free on the side of the road. Ought to be easy to find the color you want also.

Makes me wonder if the motor can't be "fixed"? I wonder how It doese if it isn't breathing it's own Waste. I'm sure someone would have figured it out by now if they could.

There's a guy in my area trying to sell a 2010 Prostar with 500k on it for 19k and he's not having any luck. The listing has been up for a month now. If it was a 2003 truck, it would be gone in days.

Got one as a rental once. Got my first load and made it almost 50 miles before the head gasket blew. That was a short trip.

Oh and as for prostars, i have driven a couple and personally I really like the interior, especially the steering wheel controls. If they would quit making a battery powered apu that doesn't ever work an option for companies to skimp on and stick with the Cummins then i think they would be ok. At least the prostars don't look like a big pile of garbage some one threw chrome on to try to make it look good like they did with the lonestars, lol. IMHO, that has to be the ugliest truck ever dreamed up.
4mer trucker Thanks this.
