Been looking at 2 schools here in NC. Looked into the school and peidmont community college in roxboro NC and their price is around $3700. Class is 5 weeks 9 hours per day. I also looked into classes at johnson comm college in smithfeild NC and their prices are around $700, but their class is 8 weeks long, and 10 hours a day. Im not really understanding why the price difference is so much? thanks
Why are some schools drastically cheaper?

Location, location, location.
Size of classes might have something to do with the price.
Equipment (trucks) they use could affect the price.
Insurance expences.
School reputations. (Elite, or Blue Collar?)
I would think that for a Comm College, the price for both of your examples is off. From Students that I've trained, the Comm College price was somewhere in between the two you mentioned. ($1,800 to $2,200 for Comm Colleges.)
Regular Truck Driving Schools are MUCH more, as I'm sure you already know.
Just make sure the school you choose is PTDI Certified.
It's Gov. Regulations & Requirements, & Guidelines.
Some companies won't hire a student that graduated from a truck driving school that is not PTDI Certified.
Good luck to you.
Let us know how you do. -

Really looking for something local. Im 17 now and im almost 18, planning on starting school as soon as I turn 18. Thanks for the information. Im hoping that maybe I once I get it then I can maybe hopefully get a job with a logging company or a small time company until im 21, Ive got a feeling Im probably going to have a hard time though. thanks

You are too young for otr and you may find difficulty finding a driving job intrastate as well. Most local jobs want "experience" and school training wont be enough.
You may want to put this training on the back burner for a few years. If you get trained and do not get hired right away many companies will demand a refresher course before they agree to hire you (again at your cost). -

Thanks for the ideas. My father worked his way up through winndixie from working in the stores then at the wharehouse and etc. It seems that times have changed though and they want experience rather than company loyalty. Realistically what is the chance of getting a class A driving job before 21?

Try with your local Pepsi or Coca-Cola distributor and any beer distributor. They will even help you get your cdl if you already have your permit. Good Luck
-
Aside from a beverage distributor you might also look for a small company that does only intrastate or class B work.
The Coke/Pepsi/Beer distributor might be your best opportunity though. At least you'd have class A experience should you decide to go elsewhere.
